The odd one for me was accidental falls being nearly the same as car accidents. Never would have guessed.

I found this searching on Google about chances to be attacked by a bear: petpedia.co/bear-attack-statistics/What ended up more interesting to me was all the other getting attacked by searches that came up:

The odd one for me was accidental falls being nearly the same as car accidents. Never would have guessed. I'm guessing that elderly folks are making a big contribution on that. My elderly mum started falling recently...just a terrifying situation. She's avoided major consequences so far, thankfully. After a friend told me about his father falling & being stuck injured & alone on the floor for 18 hours, I rigged up every room of her house with an Amazon Alexa device so she can call for help if she can speak.

This is mainly a reflection of how few opportunities remain open to bears in modern life.

As a sports fan in Chicago I can verify the Bears attack poses very little danger.

Rankings like that don't mean much if not split by age. Either way, bears don't rate.

Sleeping Bag Man!, does your mother have a life alert pendant, not necessarily the ones advertised on tv or in AARP magazines, but one that's monitored by a security service and has balance alerts? That's what I got for my father. It alerted the monitoring company even when he bent over.

The more recent (4,5 & 6) Apple Watches also, iirc, have a fall detection feature that doesn’t require the victim to take action. support.apple.com/en-us/HT208944

That's what I got for my father. It alerted the monitoring company even when he bent over. I shopped extensively for those, and may still get one. The sticking point was that she doesn't want to wear a pendant, so it has to be a watch. But even then I don't think she'd wear it to bed - and getting out of bed has been the cause of a couple falls. If I can convince her to wear it 24/7 I'll get the Apple Watch for her. It has automatic fall detection, which is the only thing I'm missing now.

I'm also getting her bear spray, in case she's attacked by bears with chainsaw hands

Those are great if you can get somebody to start the chainsaws for you. Otherwise, they're kind of embarrassing.

I just spend 4 hours in the ER, this afternoon, getting probed and scanned, thinking I just had an ingrown beard hair on my neck that got massively infected and ruptured...I ain't afraid of no bears, interacted with them many times.......but F- Cancer.....Happy Thanksgiving....
