WORN WEAR from Patagonia. Who else here has used Worn Wear from Patagonia? I need a more insulated mid-layer for snow country winter hiking. The layer would be under a shell, with a pack, with the threat of freezing rain and sweat, that ruled out down insulation. The piece I bought nominally retails for $400. This piece rated excellent or meaning no repairs evident, shipped for less than $220. Other name brands have synthetic equivalents but do not compress well, have a shorter life, or loft on the insulation's durability than the materials Patagonia uses. Finally, the company supports the land and people I support.

I've had a Nano Puff for a long time, and a Micro Puff for a short time. I wear the Nano Puff in shoulder seasons and often in winter. I's been repaired at least twice. Love it. Haven't used the Micro Puff nearly as much, but the weather getting colder, so that may change, even in an El Nino year like this.
The fill is synthetic, so it's more susceptible to losing loft than down.
I've never bought any of their Worn Wear, because I haven't worn anything out, and have just patched a few.
Let us know how it goes.
And I agree with you regarding how they support than land and people.

Zippers wear out in my case so I avoid used garments with long zippers. I’ve no problem with used fleece in good condition and don’t own any fleece currently that I haven’t found at the thrift shop. Yes they have a lot of worn out things but occasionally you find something that looks to have never been worn. I would certainly give Patagonia a try. We just bought a lot of new t-shirts from them.

This piece rated excellent or meaning no repairs evident, shipped for less than $220. Well, it arrived a few days ago. I have never unpackaged a piece of outdoor ware more odorless in my life. Entirely neutral. The Macro is the puffier and longer waisted offspring of the NanoPuff. The zipper showed no wear. It is a black version but no detectable stains or surface blemishes under a hard light lamp. Looking at the interior work and design really demonstrated to my eye the premium cut and finish of Patagonia's products. I almost tempted to take on a lesser-rated product just to test the scale. Nah, I don't have the $$ for testing. I gave it a real-world test in the local mountains yesterday with the temps in the sunshine at 9k and 20 degF. Sandwiched between a mid-weight base layer and my ski shell parka it was too warm. On the hike back though, with a receding sun and 10-15 F, it was perfect. Very slow hike while wildlife watching so plenty of time for the cold to soak in. If I added my R-1 hoody in the mix, and decent pants or bibs, this is going to make a great zero to minus ten to fifteen deg F. Below that I am going vapor barrier and back to down. And out of there.
