I'd ask the same question at ( backcountrypost.com/ ). Most of those members are from Utah and know the desert better than anyone.

I've been to Zion in December. It's uncrowded and you can drive the inner canyon road instead of being shuttled. But, and this is a big thing: all the dayhike trails I attempted (even the iconic "wheelchair-accessible" part of the River Walk)were extremely icy. I really wished I had some traction devices for my boots. So, get some Yak-Trax or whatever ice-gripping device you choose, and you should be good to go! There are evening Ranger Talks in the Lodge that you can go to for something to do when it's dark and cold and you would otherwise be hanging around in the campground. If it's clear, the stargazing is great. But the road up to Lava Point is probably closed for the season, so some of the hiking trail options won't be accessible.
