Maybe it should be a satire publication. Make it look and sound real when you talk about how backpackers should carry 25lbs of firewood with them on top of their packs along with an iron skillet.

We're gonna need a guest writer for a two part article about what sort of BAK/machete to take on a trip, and then how to use it. Are you volunteering?

It would need to be purely satire since I haven't written (wrote? I'll need someone to edit my grammar) anything since high school and I've never used a machete. I think I heard once they are good for cracking acorns open.

My god, it's full of stars... Good to know that our alien visitors still use rivets.

Because I live in the Southwest, exposure to indigenous religions and practices can happen. It's unfortunate that most of these sacred beliefs have been destroyed or assimilated by Christianity mostly by use of force under the guise of saving souls. This guy puts things into perspective.

[iframe title="YouTube video player" width="560" height="349" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/izuL0Wquvkw?wmode=transparent&start=0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen="1"][/iframe] Being a native (no pun intended) of Syracuse and Oneida, and growing up with friends who were Oneidas, we grew up with at least a basic understanding of the tribes. We spent countless hours looking for artifacts, and "playing Indian" in the woods and swamps (making forts, bows/arrows, spearing fish, etc). Heck, we even played near (and maybe perhaps occasionally <ahem> "on") the Skenandoah* boulder, one of the mythical "turning stones" of old. Many of the local hiking trails are the same paths used by the Oneidas. But even my Oneida friends weren't overly familiar with their ancestor's religion... stories and tenets, yes... but not the actual religious practices. The tribe has recently resurrected original elements of both language and religion, and have centers dedicated to their further advancement. *known as "Shenandoah" elsewhere

walkswithblackflies, one of the PBS stations available here has been running documentaries on suppression of Native American values, practices, language, and more. That's no secret and certainly not the first time I've read or watched documentaries, but this one is particularly personal. And sad, and would make anyone angry to learn of the attempts to literally destroy their identities. Fortunately, there are still elders who remember the "old ways" and can teach them to younger members. What's really disgusting to me is the arrogance of the whites who assumed that they were better than the Native Americans and forced their culture onto them, literally as if they were slaves.

Have you ever read what the Australians did to the Aborigines in the name of assimilation? Ooph. Related to this forum, Follow the Rabbit-Proof Fence is a book (and movie) about a 1,000-mile "hike" 3 young girls took to get back home after being forcibly removed from their parents/village.

My first thought was this has to be a hoax, but the mysterious monolith has been reported from numerous mainstream sources. I'd by lying if I said my interest wasn't greatly piqued by this. That's even stranger than the Zombie Minks in Denmark, rising from mass graves.

Razor sharp knife? Razor knife. Not sure I'd buy one, but this was fun to watch. (31 million views in 21 days.)

More proof that Appalachia extends into Upstate NY... CORTLAND COUNTY, N.Y. — The Cortland County Sheriff’s Office is asking the public to be on the lookout after a rash of catalytic converter thefts recently in the county.
The office is investigating “several” thefts, and so are other agencies including New York State Police, Homer police and City of Cortland police.
Thieves steal the parts from underneath vehicles and sell them for cash at a scrapyard. www.syracuse.com/crime/2021/01/cortland-county-asks-public-for-help-in-rash-of-catalytic-converter-thefts.html

Most are stainless and contain platinum, rodium and iridium. They are warrantied for 10 years, 100K in most cars. Many have an O2 sensor in them that has to be replaced also. All you need is a battery operated sawzall and and to be real skinny. Meth heads and junkies tend to fit that description. Many car dealers have been hit with this theft. Last ones I heard of were in Schenectady and Albany. Rural undercarriage destruction is usually porcupines chewing on hoses, or in the west, marmots. Used to be jacking a deer was enough to get through the rough times....
