Has anyone hiked the Ala Kahakai Trail? It looks like a trail that is primarily day-hiking, but perhaps it's good for backpacking too. I can't find all that much information about it. It looks like they took a bunch of coastal trails, roads and connectors and created one big trail out of it, but I don't see any established campsites or photos of anyone carrying a full sized backpack. Any insight appreciated.

I’ve spent a fair bit of time back a bit on that coast and it’s decently populated, plus with 50% private property overnight could get tricky. That link provides a contact email you might try.
Something running through private property connecting various cultural and religious sites I’d be very careful on my itinerary given the locals increasing issues regarding visitors. In diving circles, what my visits were centered in, there are plenty of warnings of coastal access to avoid if you don’t want a vandalized car on your return to shore.... overnighting in the “wrong” location is best avoided.
The trail association should be a good source for up to date access information.
