I had almost 40lb in a Circuit last week and while I suffered, the pack wasn't the problem.
The hip pockets are pretty generous. I don't miss a lid pocket or a lid, for that matter, at all. I really like the simplicity of the roll-top, especially on short trips or at the end of a trip, when I can cinch down the pack nice and small.

Your Circuit was really comfortable for brief time I tried it on. Forty pounds wouldn't scare me in that pack.
I hope you're feeling better.

I hope you're feeling better. Thanks. It wasn't that I was "sick" exactly, just that something is making me nauseous, pretty much every mid-morning. I'm guessing it's a combination of meds (high blood pressure and, very recently, a new drug for RA.) I think it's there every morning, just that I haven't been paying attention, though maybe exasperated by altitude and/or dehydration. Sucks to get old. :/

Do you, by any chance, tend to be congested during the night? Perhaps moreso at altitude? I have a problem seasonally (it peaks late fall/early winter) where I have drainage during the night, and then it tends to trigger my gag reflex when I eat or drink in the morning. I'm not really nauseous, but sometimes tend to throw up my coffee and/or breakfast if the gag reflex triggers. The only reason I ask is that sleeping at elevation DEFINITELY triggers this issue for me. I have to keep myself very still while drinking my coffee in camp, and then I generally don't even attempt to eat until everything is packed up. (I eat most of my breakfast in a bite here, a bite there on the trail, rather than in camp, because of this.)

The congestion triggers a lot of coughing in the mornings and that was problematic last week. It all started in Bryce, so I thought it was altitude-related. Thanks for this -- you've given me something to go on.

When we lived in town and I walked to work every morning, this was a major issue for me, like from mid-October through February. The walking was definitely a trigger. Fortunately, I'm an early riser, so there were few people out and about to hear and see me gagging/coughing/retching disgustingly.

I just got a Catalyst, and have used it on a couple of trips so far. I agree with you on both counts, it handles loads very well, and I am really liking the big outside pockets.
I'm kind of an organization freak. I like having my gear well organized in my pack, and for decades have used traditional two compartment packs with outside pockets. The Catalyst has changed that somewhat. The design of these packs is to have the stuff you will access on a regular basis in the outside pockets, and the stuff you would us in camp stored inside the pack. the system works well, and I'm still playing with it.
I would highly recommend either the Circuit or the Catalyst.
