A bear that now would recognize humans as food rather than simply associated with food would be an intolerable visitor safety hazard. Are you seriously suggesting that bears have no idea they could kill and eat us until after they eat human flesh? Not what I wrote. They don’t consider us food. Humans aren’t a normal part of black bears diet are we? We’re not food to them. Then it’s very well established individual bears learn and adapt through their experience. So a bear that feeds on a human can be expected to adapt: accepting humans as another food item, threatening visitor’s safety. . Which the park won’t accept any more than they do a bear that’s broken into a vehicle for food where Great Smoky Mountains policy has long been zero tolerance: one incident and the bears killed.
