Weather is looking kind of rainy for the trip. So my plan is just to wear my rain gear the whole time that way we don't get any rain.

Well that was interesting. After this trip I suggest that people go in September. I knew going in that is a popular destination but it was crazy. Both the park rangers and experienced campers said that they've never seen it so crowded. Unless you're done hiking by noon you probably won't find a shelter or tent site. If I go again it will be towards the middle of September.

Bummer, but hope you had en enjoyable trip in spite of the hoards. Yes, it was good despite the crowds and cloudy weather. Its kinda hard to not have a good time out hiking. Our first day was long and hard but that is because I had forgotten how rugged the trail was between Rock Harbor and Moskey Basin. I also under-estimated the mileage. 12 miles on this kind of trail was kinda rough for the two newbies with me. But in reality we didn't have much choice because as I understand it Daisy Farm was full when we passed through it. The cool thing is that even though my niece didn't get to see a moose like she wanted, she did see a wolf!! Crazy! 7 years ago when I was there last and the island only 2 remaining wolves I did hear one howl at night when we were at Chippewa.

Wonder if it was as crowded Toward the western end of the island. I know that East of Hatchet Lake has historically gotten more use and the crowds really thin out at, say, the Feldman Loop or the Minong west of the cut-off to Hatchet. My next summer’s trip will likely be on the western end, between Windigo and Malone Bay.

My next summer’s trip will likely be on the western end, My next time, whenever, that is will also probably be on the western end. Especially since I seem to repel moose. I've heard that Washington Creek and other areas on the western end have a much greater chance of showing me a moose.
