I was there once, in Sep 2007. Did a five day four night loop at the west end from Windigo. Really enjoyed it. We saw nobody else during the middle three days.

I need to start looking at the map. One of my hiking partners want to catch a sunrise on Superior. Gonna try to find a good campsite for that.

Best sunrise location for hikers is Moskey Basin. Although, I bet it would be spectacular to stay at 3-mile and hike up to Mt Franklin in the dark and watch a sunrise from there!

Best sunrise location for hikers is Moskey Basin. I will remember that. You're not the only one to recommend Moskey Basin. So that will be on the list and if I remember correctly it has shelters for the people going by watercraft. I need to sit down with my niece and plan out an itinerary and hope we hit Moskey Basin on a day with good weather for a sunrise. Only there 5 days so we need to choose our campsites carefully. The last time I was there was 2014. I'm gonna look at the map tonight and see where 3-Mile is.

3-mile is 3 miles from Rock Harbor, and it has two docks, a few hundred ft apart. The shelters and campsites are set around a small cove between the docks, blocking some of the views. The eastern dock is long enough that the views are better. My guess is that sunrise would be pretty visible from there, too. You might want to try an app called “The Photographers Ephemeris” to simulate a sunrise for your dates from the different campgrounds docks. You can see exactly what angle the sun will rise, and see if it will be obstructed by nearby landforms.

“The Photographers Ephemeris” Android doesn't have the app you're talking about (at least I think) I watched a photography video last week that talked about using it. I've installed a similar app to my android. I thought I understood it but now I'm second guessing myself. I'm pretty sure I understand the yellow and purple lines (at least on my app) are where the sun/moon rises and sets but I'm unsure of the 3rd darker yellow/purple line is for. And I can't find any explanation.

Use it as a web app through your browser. The extra line might be the transit(highest point or time it crosses the center line of the sky)?

Well my niece is also really really wanting to see a moose while we are there. I asked over on the IR forum if there were any known good spots. The response was more or less anywhere and everywhere but to increase chances go exploring in the early morning and evening. However, I was also told that Washington Creek (wherever that is, gonna look on the map in a few minutes) is a consistent place that people see them.
Anyone have any other advice on when/where to look to increase our odds of seeing a moose?

Anyone have any other advice on when/where to look to increase our odds of seeing a moose? Not so much advice; just my anecdotal experience. During my first and only visit (5 days/ 4 nites Sep 2007, west end). I didn't see a moose on Isle Royale until the final 2 miles back to Windigo. An enormous bull moose was standing in the middle of the trail 30 feet ahead. When he saw us he snorted and ambled downhill a bit, interposing himself between us and the cow & calf munching on vegetation a little farther down the slope. When I mentioned this to the park personnel at Windigo they said that moose family had become somewhat acclimated to people, often seen in that area. We also saw a moose before we got on the boat to the island. Driving on the local highway to catch the ride from the Minnesota side, a majestic bull moose was standing just off the shoulder on the left side. I stopped just across from him and grabbed my camera, but when I rolled down my window he must have caught the motion and bounded back into the forest before I could take a pic. Somewhat disappointed but jazzed about the sighting I resumed the drive and just as I got up to speed a squirrel dashed across the road in front of me. There was nothing I could do, and the poor little creature was crushed beneath my front tire. I turned to my buddy and said in my best Boris Badenof accent "Ve got Moose AND Squirrel!"

I was there in 2014 and stayed for 7 days and never saw a moose until the very last night on the island at Daisy Farm. It walked through camp with her calf. However, it was getting close to dark and hard to see. Also last time I believe there were only 2 or 3 wolves left at the time but we were fortunate to hear them howl. I just cant remember if we were at Moskey or Chippewa.

Lots of boaters use charcoal grills on the docks. By the way, Washington Creek is the creek right by the campground of the same name, less than 1/4 mile from the Windigo Visitors Center. It’s the “Windigo Campground”. Some mama moose have learned that the wolves stay away from the humans at Windigo, so the moose hang out close to the area particularly if they have young calves.

Lots of boaters use charcoal grills on the docks. Fair point. I keep forgetting that people into canoes, kayaks, and boats visit the island...duhh!
