It will be an interesting tour. Much like the NASCAR races the lack of practise /prep races means different competitors have a good shot.
Predictability is gone which is a fun spectacle.

They've got to stop racing on such narrow roads unless it's up/down a mountain. Too crowded, too many obstacles.
Yes, I get the PR benefit of racing in Nice for a couple of days, but even in dry weather the roads are too narrow, some of the turns are too tight. The roads in Nice along the Mediterranean coast aren't nearly as wide as those on the Champs Elysee.

^especially^ I expect for a first day when the yellow jersey is on the line and the peloton hasn't had any chance to sort itself out and get settled.
It didn’t help that a lot of the mechanics got the weather/tire pressure wrong, setting up a lot of riders for falls.

I've been watching parts of the Tour. Apparently the NHL takes precedence and NBCSN kept changing the times they were showing the Tour (i.e. - didn't match the guide/DVR). The good news... I've learned to record either the 3pm showing, or the 12am showing... and I had to program day-by-day rather than "Record Series". I think it's been an exciting Tour. Finally, evenly matched. The mountain stages have been well contested. The breakaways have been exciting. The helicopter views... stunning as ever. Those narrowing roads on Stage 10 were treacherous. Roche got bit by a cassette:

And in even better news, this morning I finally got my bottom bracket to stop squeaking! So NOW I'll be able to match the speed of these guys.

Nice to see Hirschi finally succeed on a breakaway!
I've really enjoyed watching him and Powless this Tour.

This might be the first Tour that I've actually cared about the sprinters' competition.
That said... onto the Alps!!!

Sunday's stage was pretty brutal. So many good riders shelled out the back.
JV is just dominating.
Cosnefroy, leading in the mountain competition, finished 37 minutes down. It's gotten to be a joke that the wearer of the polka dot jersey can finish that far down on a mountain stage. IMHO just racking up points on the intermediate and smaller climbs shouldn't count as much as they do. The way it's playing out is a bit of a farce.

It's all about getting every team (and thus, every sponsor) a chance to shine in the sun and get their money's worth out of whole thing.
Wait--you mean sports is all about the money???

IMHO just racking up points on the intermediate and smaller climbs shouldn't count as much as they do. The way it's playing out is a bit of a farce. Early in the race, the polka dot jersey awards aggressive riders. By then end of the race, it is usually on the most deserving climber. I'd prefer to see the jersey points based on time from bottom to top, no matter their placement within the group. They have the technology to do so. They could have a new jersey for the hill specialists:
