Hi There Everyone. Now am new here and thanks be to my friend 'Absarokanut' who told me about this place and encouraged me to join up here.
Now personally have been backpacking and wandering in the deep wilds for years. Am currently 63 and live here in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. And have lived here in this area for near 40 years. Now thru the years have wandered, hiked, and been in many wild areas all thru out the Western US And up in Alaska. But have particularly hiked and wandered here in the deep wilds that exist here in Northwest Wyoming. For years have gone back to the Thorofare and the Absarokas where I would wander back in those wonderful deep wilds all spring, summer, and fall. I have since become a sort of expert on the area from my experiences and willing to help others who want to know about the area. Thru the years have had multiple multiple close encounters with Grizzlies, Wolves, and other wildlife of the area. And personally now days trust the Bears and Wolves more then people for they have never stabbed me in the back or dragged me thru the mud. Also am a very avid birdwatcher and have pursued birding as a passion of mine for years. Am soon to retire and once I do, plan to just go back into the deep wilds to wander and to enjoy life. In my opinion those ' Deep Wilds' are the Real World!
Also my name here, "kmatjhwy", means KM (initials of my name) at Jackson Hole Wyoming.
Wishing Everyone the Best!

Can't wait to hear some of your experiences and couldn't agree more about trusting in the wild. Welcome.

Howdy Thanks for the explanation for the name. I was wondering why someone would call themselves "K-Mart Highway"

Welcome from Chicagoland, a long way from the Wyoming mountains. I'm planning a trip to the Bighorns (for the first time) the week that straddles Aug/Sep.

Welcome from the other side of Wyoming. East slope of the Bighorns is hope but most long hiking is on the west slope and south. I have just touched the Thorofare, Absaroka, Beartooth and the basins in between. Not much time in Teton County. Learning to be a winter Wyoming hiker. Birdwatcher by default as a board member of Wyoming's more active Chapters - Audubon. The most active members of this forum are more senior. 67 here.

Howdy from South Carolina. I am also new here and I have been poring over the old threads in this subforum. I mention that because there is a great deal of useful info, entertainment and amusement stored therein. A little bit of that and you almost feel like you know a number of the old hands here.
