One of my all time favorite shows first aired thirty years ago today.

Doesn't seem possible it's been that long. That was a seriously great show.

That's for sure. I'm getting old in a hurry.

We lived in Seattle at that time, and the show was primarily taped in the tiny town of Roslyn, WA, not too far from Seattle. We were eating at a very trendy restaurant (something we very rarely did--we were in our 20s and poor), and the cast of Northern Exposure was seated at a table near us. We had a fun time watching people trip all over themselves over seeing people they recognized on TV. (This sort of thing happens all the time in LA and NYC, but not so much in other cities.)
Janine Turner (that's her name, right?) was definitely playing the role of the Hollywood diva. I've always found that memory slightly amusing, since her career went exactly nowhere after that show.
The show was not bad--better than most, but fairly unremarkable, IMHO. I liked the theme music: I'm not sure how they ended up with a zydeco theme song for a show set in Alaska, though.

I'm probably 5 years too young to have fully appreciated the show, but I clearly remember my parents and grandparents discussing it over Sunday dinner. I think it was my grandparents favorite all time show for sure.
