I know some of you are growing veggie gardens. I don't, but I did grow some pineapples in my front yard for a while. Today my wife harvested the first of many coconuts from our trees out by the pool. The last of our pineapples as well, since she is tired of growing them.

zeke, did you plant the trees or were they there when you moved in? I'm wondering how long it took for them to mature and produce. Picking coconuts and pineapples from your own fruit garden is so enviable. biffnix, that's quite a good selection; there's such a beauty in healthy fresh fruit. What breed of chickens does she raise?

I have tomatoes and zucchinis coming out my ears. The blueberries are done now, as are the peaches and nectarines (there will be some more peaches in a few weeks; the tree has early and late varieties on it). A couple of eggplants are looking lovely, as are a few peppers, but they aren't ready yet. Oh, and I have several cucumbers in the fridge.
I'll be making marinara sauce in the next few days, but will have to buy onions and peppers to put in it.

biffnix, that's quite a good selection; there's such a beauty in healthy fresh fruit. What breed of chickens does she raise? No idea on the chickens. The egg-laying kind? Some are reddish, some are black and grey, some are more blonde colored. She’s always been an excellent gardener. Her backyard also has pomegranate trees, grapes, Asian pears, watermelon, eggplant, squash, apple trees, peach trees. She’s always grown a ton in every house we lived in, ever since we lived in Japan back in the late 1960’s (she is Japanese). Even though she’s 84 now, her garden’s production hasn’t lagged a bit!

Due to the cold spring, we got a late start with planting. The only harvests have been lettuce and chard. But everything is looking good and we hope to have cukes, tomatoes, peas, thinned beets, basil, and maybe even peppers soon.

autumnmist The trees were here when we moved in, 6 years ago. I know the previous tenants did not plant them, as they did absolutely nothing to make improvements for the 4 years they lived here. That means they are most likely 12-13 years old. While this is not the first year we have had coconuts, it is the first year we have had so many. 2 years ago, I improved the sprinkler system back there, so maybe they just needed the additional water.

Zeke, are those bitter melons, also called bitter gourds? My wife is from the Philippines and always gets them when we go to an Asian supermarket.

Zeke, are those bitter melons, also called bitter gourds? I have no idea what you are talking about. My picture is of a coconut and a pineapple.
