I still believe that the 41 mile Timberline Trail around Mt Hood is the finest backpacking loop in America. This was my 4th year to take on the Timberline, which I use as my age/health meter, and I am pleased with how my old body held up this year. I did the Timberline Trail about 2004, while I lived in Salem. I was early 50's then. Went counter clockwise. One long day from Cooper to Ramona Falls. Only 2 nights out, back then.

A big reason the Timberline Trail is so great is that it can represent whatever challenge one is looking for. Last week there were 3 pairs of runners who were doing the TT in one day. In 2017 I did it in 3 nights, I think that was my wakeup that it was OK to do it in 4 nights. The question will be when will I need to add another night.
