Thank you for your kind words Jer. No one comes out well in these situations.

bradmacmt , I am sorry you lived through that. I think we al have that nightmare, and it’s what keeps me from wanting to go after the driver with everything I can. In fact, I may be more afraid now of driving in the dark than I am of riding in the daylight. Thank you for your thoughts and kind words.
ETA: my first sentence seems a bit ambiguous! I mean I'm sorry you had to go through that :D

No one comes out well in these situations. This post has become rife with freaky coincidence. 35 years ago I had a bicyclist go through my windshield on a very rainy midnight. He was blotto, dressed in black riding down the middle of rt. 7 in Rutland, Vt. He sustained very minor injuries, I had some nightmares for a period. Rutland had many vying for the title of town drunk, but he was well immersed in the competition and the police knew him well. They were very good to me. It took me awhile just to add this, as it's so darn strange. I hope you've moved far beyond with the years and it haunts you no more. Unlike your incident, mine had some positive outcomes. On a happier note, I'm putting a triple crank on the Peugeot, and eventually it may have a group on it that rivals my carbon road bike. I'm going to build new wheels for it next.

BF, you were quite fortunate not to have a death on your hands. It's genuinely an awful thing. Especially for a "not fully formed" teenage brain/emotions. I made peace with the whole thing many years ago, but I can't honestly say all of the effects are completely gone. However, I just look at it as one of many threads that make the tapestry of my life. BTW, I've ridden my old Peugeot through Rutland on Route 7 with full loaded panniers!

I'll put up a pic of the bike soon, and let you know you have a committed trail angel if you ever want to bike or hike my area. Seriously. Dacks or greens are in easy reach.

I also have done route 7 on a Peugeot with Canondale paniers in the 70's
A friend's family had a cabin on Lake Dunsmore near Salisbury on rt 7 we used as a base for our summer bike trips.

Yup, Caonnondale Panniers for me. My brother used Bellwether.

Me three for Cannondale in the 70's, but now have bought Nishikis that are simple, waterproof and inexpensive. Basket with a dry bag for the front. We may ride Vt. border to border, mostly on 7 this fall. We live a few miles off it. I'd bet you've been to the Falls of Lana, Ernie. Pretty area.

As God's children we're not made for it I can assure you. PTSD is real, and comes from these sort of events. True words that brought back a flood of emotions as I read them. I suppose I became an old soul at age 17... I was 19.

I'd bet you've been to the Falls of Lana, Ernie. Pretty area. Many times at all times of the year. My friend's cottage was on the opposite side I have X country skied across the frozen lake to get there. They didn't have to pay for electricity. The hydro plant is run by the local coop and after what they needed they could even sell some back to the grid. Maybe not so uncommon now but back in the 70's it was kind of unique.
