This morning is likely my last morning shoot...I'll have to wait a few day until it is high enough in the west to shoot in the evening, when I'll have an actual"foreground" to frame the Comet.

I lied, this morning's forecast looked too good to pass up.... The tail is so long now, I dropped down to 105mm fl I reprocessed it trying one of my plugins to eliminate the brightness gradient in the background, I don't know if it helps any, but here it is...

Finally saw it! Second Son and I backpacked up in Lassen (Eldest Son was somewhere up there too, with some friends), and made a point of getting up and looking for it. We couldn’t figure out how to photograph it, but enjoyed the sight of it, reflected in the lake as well.
The moon seemed to wash it all out for us. Why don’t your photos look like there’s a moon up?

I couldn't pass up one more morning, when I saw the forecast, and went out Sunday..... NEOWISE saved the best, for last...This is uncropped, using just a 180mm lens....

I remember all the hype when Halley's comet visited. Telescope manufacturers could not keep up with the orders. There is a very good chance that most of those scopes were used once or twice and then put at the back of the wardrobe only to be in the trash 20 years later.

Finally saw it tonight. Our horizon is covered in trees to the northeast...but the northwest is much more open.
Bear in mind folks, it doesn't look like those fabulous photos up above. As an experienced amateur astronomer, I could barely make it out in these suburban skies with my naked eye. With my 12x80 binoculars, it was easy to see, but still not as impressive as in the photos.
Kudos to our excellent photographer.

i saw it two nights ago for the 1st time in the northwest and straight down from the Big Dipper (Ursa Major). Do take out binoculars for a good look, it is a bit dim for the naked eye. Last night and tonight, there were clouds west of us and obscured the view.

I can barely see it at home, but it was pretty impressive in the wilderness on Saturday night. I was afraid I couldn't see it from camp because of the surrounding hills, so I hiked a little over a mile to the top of a nearby mountain at dark. Had to wait an hour before it got dark enough to see the comet. During that time I was uncomfortable trying to sit or lay on jagged rocks, a breeze blew up and I got cold, I was bitten by ants and stalked by predators, and started to wish I'd just gone to bed. Once I saw the comet I headed down to find I could see it just fine from camp. Good times.
