I have reservations next week in the Adirondacks. I am trying to decide weather to go or not. I don't live in one of the states that is on New York's quarentine list, so that is a plus. I am unsure about sharing the camp ground with God knows who.

I am unsure about sharing the camp ground with God knows who. How’s the spacing? I stayed at Adirondack Loj’’s Heart Lake campground (Lean to actually) three weeks ago. And no one was within 100 feet. With decent bathroom sanitization and if you carry your own disinfectant wipes and even toilet paper, and hand sanitizer (that campground had running hot (!) water for handwashing available) to reduce contact exposure even further and it could work. I’ve previously stayed at NYS Gold Beach and the site spacing was good there as well. I did all of my own cooking and carried sandwiches for the drive so my only exposure were fuel stops and bathrooms. It probably helped that it was close enough to their opening there were few campers tbh. Of course by then it might be too late but I was heartened by their checkin procedure which was quite distanced. As was the High Peaks information center. Nice area. I wouldn’t stroll the towns, at least not Lake Placid which had crowded sidewalks even midweek.

I'm not a doctor, scientist, epidemiologist, or any type of expert, but my understanding is that transmission risk through surface contact is thought to be quite low. So, if your concern about bathrooms is about surfaces, e.g. door knobs, counters, etc., that may not be your biggest risk point.
If, on the other hand, you're concerned about *crowded* bathrooms, where you're in close contact with other people, indoors, especially if unmasked, that's different. But it seems like that might be manageable/avoidable.
If it were me, I would go, but that's assuming no plans to eat in restaurants, etc.

Looks like a really beautiful place Bill!
Our road has gotten a little bumpier lately. New York has done a relatively magnificent job with the pandemic. I haven't been "out" to eat or drink since the middle of March and I'm guessing jazzmom knows a lot more about these things so I'll just add that if you have neighboring folks that give you problems just start hacking like you're sucking down ginormus chunks of lung cheese. That should get you adequate social distance these days.

I was recently on a car trip to visit my daughter in Austin. (I live in Kansas.)
As far as the travel part, I would advise only getting gas (not going in, using the restrooms, etc) at gas stations. Some of them tend to be crowded with people who may not be masked. Rest areas are better for bathroom breaks: more space, easier to get in and out with minimal contact w/ people and surfaces.
In a campground, I think you should be OK. I'd consider using the bathroom/outhouse only for #2, just to reduce exposure (for me and for everyone else).
I'm planning to BP later this month: my plan is to primitive camp for a couple acclimation days, in lieu of my usual scheme of staying at front-country campgrounds.
Most restaurants are set up so that you can do relatively contact-free pickup, FWIW.

I’d add that my recent experience are the rest area bathrooms seem to be very well cleaned and maintained by often onsite staff; gas station restrooms notsomuch.

I bought this for traveling and car camping under COVID. It is actually relatively compact. We do travel in a Honda Odyssey. I have 8 year twin girls and I'm nervous about them using public facilities if we travel. To much contact and not enough discipline about touching their eyes, nose, mouth. Plus having the ability to stop at almost anytime for sometimes sudden pee needs of young girls is a big advantage. It's still factory clean. Looks like a good design. We'll see about it after some use.

Thank you all who posted. I plan on going. I called the park and asked about bathroom cleaning. The employee said they are keeping the bathrooms as clean as possible. She also said the camp ground isn't crowded. That's a plus. So off I go tomorrow at about 2:30 AM.The way Covid has made a comeback of sorts who know if the campground will be open the last week of August ( my next set of reservations). Looks like I can get a nice week's worth of camping.

Well catonsvillebill, you have inspired me. This morning when the reservations opened up at 8 am I got a lake side campsite at Lake Eaton for six nights next week. The family and I have started packing and are very psych'd. Like you said this is a good lull in COVID in NY. We are likely to go almost full isolation. I'm planning on taking all the food we need instead of locally resupplying like we usually do on a trip like this.

I was at Heart Lake ( one of the ADK leantos) at the start of June on just such a short time impulse trip. Very fun and worth it.
ETA:,RAQUETTE Lake for a week in two weeks! Golden Beach campground.

Now I just have to dodge NY State banning Pennsylvanians. We’re about 50% of the cutoff but who knows. Travel this year is odd.
