PSA: Please, please, please don't burn down my beloved wilderness! Things are tinder dry in my state (Washington) and most other western states, too. Be responsible and overly cautious when BPing and using your stoves. Use a positive shut off stove, such as a Pocket Rocket or similar, instead of an alcohol stove. That is all...

Amen to this! I was shocked and amazed when CalFire posted on their FB page having been responding to multiple abandoned and illegal campfires already this season.
Walking away from any campfire THIS season? Words fail.

I have a real fear of going out for a hike and not being able to bet back because of a forestfire. It is that bad.

Most of the forests are already in fire restrictions or will be shortly. This means no smoking on the trail. No smoking ANYTHING, not just tobacco.

I'd recommend everyone get themselves a PLB or a SPOT!!! I just worked 14 days straight on the Lake Fire which burned hot and fast a good chunk of the San Gorgonio Wilderness. First morning a guy was rescued off the South Fork Trail because he had one of these devices to signal for help. I shudder to think what would've happened otherwise.

We were on way to Colorado (Very wet. Very green. Very snowy.) on I-10 last Thursday. WOW! What a cloud of smoke boiling up as we passed all the sun scorched earth around the windmills just over the pass. Beautiful weather for El Diente, Wilson, Mt Wilson combo (near Telluride, CO). Did I mention snow? There were the normal cautions along the road all the way from New Mexico that indicated fire danger was LOW! Don't see that often in California. Did I mention mosquitoes?

Tarol, That is a great idea. I wish they were available to rent like bear canisters.

Anyone out there? Any fire stories you care to share? My whole area is covered by a MONSTER plume of smoke from wildfires burning up in BC. Everything is hazy appearing.

Are there any big fires going in ID? I'm headed that way in a couple weeks.

I think the coastal redwood area of northern CA belongs in this section.
We've had smoke and fire from lightning a few weeks ago, but clear now.
Fire danger for SO OR /NOR CA is high, but not extreme and our fire crews that were all camping around the airport and fairgrounds moved south to the lake fire
