Bill Friday afternoon we had our thicket smoke of the summer... right after a decent thunderstorm rolled through. It was mostly smoke from California. Rain usually knock smoke down but sometimes it kind of just sucks it into the area.
This morning was our clearest in weeks. Truly hoping it holds on through my upcoming 3 day weekend.

I'm not a fisherman...I'm curious about this. When packing for a 13-day trip with fishing, do you carry 13 days worth of meals, or do you assume that you'll catch fish to supplement what you carry? Because 13 days means some pretty darn heavy packs, of course... I almost never eat what I catch, too much work. Also, when I made my long trip to the Winds, I was a bit paranoid about cooking fish in Grizzly country. Yes, 13 days of food was pretty heavy, but it was definitely doable. As I recall, swimswithtrout has taken month-long trips, made possible by eating a whole lot of fish. I'd like to do that some day. I routinely pull 21 day backpacking trips with one food load. You do less miles per day but stay out longer. Reminds me of Tully Henke pulling a 40 day trip in Russia with a 95 lb pack. See---
His best quote is--- "Instead of the desire to carry less and go further, the desire (is) to carry more and go longer." Amen, Brother.
My longest trip w/o resupply was in Snowbird wilderness (NC) at 27 days in 2020---exactly a year ago today---
Camping at Middle Falls on Snowbird Creek.
My last trip in June was 21 days in Bald River Gorge wilderness in TN---
