Now do you have to turn around and hike back again?

The first half of the hike the temps will be mid 60s down to mid 30s. The second half it will jump up to 90s down to 60s. That's some crazy temperature variation. Good luck on your upcoming hike and congrats for reaching the end. And you get a bonus after the end because you can still look forward to filling in those other couple of stretches.

Thru-hikers get all the attention but someone who persists for 20 years to complete a long trail is more deserving of accolades IMHO. Congratulations!

I've been enjoying reading your trip reports on that trail over the years. Have fun! Thanks for following the trip, burntfoot. You've been reading the reports since just about the first one.

That is an accomplishment to be proud of. Enjoy your hike! Thanks Paula! A friend said I should have a big celebration. But, I'll be happy with trail-completion patch the Arizona Trail Organization issues.

Good luck DD! I hope the temps stay reasonable for your trip. Thanks, BigLoad. The first half or so will be 60s/30s. The final miles will be 90s/50s.

That's great--I hope everything goes well for you. I have little interest in through-hiking, but I could enjoy a section-hike approach like that. My biggest problem is that I hate to pass through an area without exploring side drainages, climbing off-the-beaten-path passes, etc. Your approach could leave at least a little room for that. Thanks, cweston. If backpacking can't include a little exploration and immersion then it's no where near as rewarding.

Now do you have to turn around and hike back again? No way! I don't have another 20 years.

Yeah, there is a 3000 foot drop in elevation from the start at the Canyon to the end at the Utah state line. I haven't really set a timeline for completing those sections. Soon, I hope.

desert dwellerEnjoy the Kaibab Forest, especially East Canyon. There are short trails down I wish I had explored. Perhaps 3 miles max. Savor and enjoy!

Man I'd like to hike that one! I can't think of anything more opposite to the East Coast jungles I hike in.

Man I'd like to hike that one! Arizona is an area of amazingly diverse terrain. It goes from low deserts to tundra. Though I can't think of any traditional swamps, there are some lush riparian areas with permanent standing water.
