The only Cove Hollow I am familiar with is over by Cedar Lake, much farther west. I've heard of that one too, but haven't been. I highly recommend the awesome bluffs of the Cove Hollow near East Trigg. I've been to Bell Smith several times, but haven't gone off trail there. I assume you've been to nearby Burden Falls, which is a popular spot. Explored further downstream once and found a nice campsite around the bend to the right. Visited Lusk Creek a couple times years ago (including Indian Kitchen) but didn't explore much. One Horse Gap was interesting, but not as spectacular as the other places mentioned IMO. I've been further west many times, from Ferne Clyffe to Little Grand Canyon and Inspiration Point. Giant City was the first place I visited, freshman year at SIU.

Well, our August trip is still a go, at least in my mind. We just called off a college reunion trip to the Telluride Blues and Brews in September. I was really looking forward to that, a couple of the guys I haven't seen for 40 yrs! But that's a completely different situation. I'm thinking Beartooths again so-Flight, with plenty of Purell, wipes and a mask, 1-2 nights coming and going in a motel in Red Lodge or Cook City, but once we get to Lady of the Lake there won't be many Covids around. Should be able to do it-Right?

The forest service office in Harrisburg has a very good map of trails on the east side. You could pretty easily hike from Bell Smith east to reach Jackson Falls, passing Sand Cave en route. From Jackson Falls, a trail runs to Mustang Rd then almost due east to reach Double Branch Falls just northwest of Eddyville, right by the horse camp. Follow the creek down a mile and you reach the River to River trail, which will take you through Hayes Canyon to Bay Lake. As you know, hiking north along the tracks gets you to Jackson Hollow where the climbers gather. From there it’s a relatively short bushwhack northeast to reach the east branch of the Mill Branch creek that feeds Bell Smith. This creek cuts a sluice through the stone and is pretty spectacular after a good rain. From there it’s only a mile or so back to Bell Smith.
