I read news on a Google feed. Also AP news. I come across news articles all the time about hiking. Most are not in themselves thread worthy. But I figured maybe there would be interest in a thread like this where we could post news stories. A story that is minor to me may be about someone that a board member knows or knows the SAR that rescued them.
So to start off a very ordinary story link:

What I love about this story: editors write the headlines, journalists write the stories. The story said he was bitten. The headline says he was bit.
Makes you wonder...

What an awesome thread Ernie! News here is that tomorrow Monday May 18th Grand Teton National Park and the Wyoming entrances of Yellowstone National Park begin a phased reopening. Most day use recreational opportunities start tomorrow. Limited food, lodging, and other services to come in the weeks ahead. In the Bridger-Teton National Forest it looks like most campgrounds are slated to open May 31st. Granite Hot Springs slated to open that day as well. Folks, keep your sticks on the ice, take a deep seat with a faraway look, and may the trail rise to meet us all in this new world of ours.

I liked the new hiking advice; it takes the approach of how to adapt w/i new parameters instead of the oft read complaints by some on how they'll continue to live life as it was before the pandemic, w/o compensating for necessary threats.
The former reflect the human ability to adapt and change; the latter reflect an unwillingness to do so, and potentially a more hazardous approach.

This was very near my house. By the time we heard the news the family had been found. This is unfortunately not as uncommon as it should be here in Pennsylvania.
