I would think that information was universal. Healthier people fair better when adverse health conditions strike. Obesity is not something anyone can cure in a month, no matter how much exercise they get. But, if this is the impetus needed to start a better lifestyle, then at least that is one good thing derived from the pandemic.

That could hopefully be one of the changes that results from the pandemic. But as to New Orleans specifically, it's also the area in which a so-called religious head of a church/so-called religious organization is flaunting guidelines and enabling hundreds of people to gather together. He alone could be a major vector of dozens of cases.
And perhaps the best aspect is that b/c gyms are closed, if people aren't working out at home they're outside walking or going to parks, or other places that don't require paid admission. I've seen more walkers and bikers in the surrounding neighborhood than I have in some time.
I think a lot of changes are going to be enabled because of this pandemic, including more frugal and selective spending, and more emphasis on home grown food as opposed to store bought food.
I'd like to think that there would in fact be some positive aspects to be gained from this negative experience, if only we can look beyond to find those hidden gems.

I would think that information was universal.. Probably but people put it off. Still double the mortality rate should catch people’s eye (and hopefully policymakers).

Had been expecting San Francisco cases to explode given its dense population much like Manhattan and dominant public transportation use. And that could still happen especially with the poor and homeless, however to this day just modest numbers of cases. One-third of residential units do not own a car and public transportation is used by residents more than half the time to get around since parking is often expensive. One thing the hilly city does have per your topic is lots of fit people. Aerobics, dance classes, and gym memberships are huge. Streets are full of those walking, biking, jogging, and more. The percentages of younger people has also risen dramatically in the last couple decades.

Rode my bike to the local outdoor gun range and went through a box of ammunition. No one else there.
May as well stay proficient in my down time.

.357 revolver. That is the gun I fire least, so I figgered I needed the most practice with that one. For some reason I am not very good with it. My wife will empty the gun into the center circle at 7 yards and can double tap (head and chest) the silhouette target. (Keeps me on the straight and narrow!) I am all over the place with it. I am much better with the Glocks.
That was my last box of wadcutters,so now I have to wait until the gun stores reopen to get more, or shoot the HP/FMJ rounds. I try not to buy California ammunition, so it takes a trip to Reno.
It's 5 miles one way to the range, so not really a long ride. Still, it was nice to get out and about.

My biggest concern is that so many people are heading to the parks and trails that it’s almost hard to keep a proper social distance!

Death rate is one thing, but infection rates probably have much more to do with degree of social distancing that's being consistently practiced in your community.
So, at an individual level, I would say that staying home is a more effective risk mitigation over maintaining your exercise routine.

So, at an individual level, I would say that staying home is a more effective risk mitigation over maintaining your exercise routine. I think that's probably true in the short term, but I'm not so sure about the longer term. A vaccine is at least a year away, possibly more, and we have no idea how effective it will be, so unless we all stay holed up (and unemployed) for many months or even years, most of us will almost certainly eventually come in contact with the virus. The lockdowns only slow the spread, they don't stop it.
So I think, at an individual level, it's wise to find a way to stay in good condition. I'm not convinced passing a "lot" of people on a trail is even in the same discussion as sitting in a theater for three hours or working out on weights in a gym or working all week in an office cubicle farm or whatever. Healthy people handle this sickness better than the unhealthy, so I say stay healthy.

I had a little bit of equipment in my basement before this all transpired. I've acquired a bit more, and a couple of other things are on the way (someday).
Just doing body weight exercises like planks or dips or situps or pushups or burpees work well. It helps to have a little bit of equipment, but you don't need much and it doesn't have to be expensive.
