How many backpackers does it take to change a light bulb? We don't know yet. We haven't got it changed. I was just wondering the same thing.

Make sure the new bulb will fit, especially if it's a different type. Incandescent, halogen, CFL, LED...

rebeccad, have you tried a photo search? Upload a photo of the fixture, then use Google photo. www.google.com/imghp?hl=en&tab=wi&ogbl#spf=1585613981418 (go to Google, click on "Images" in the upper right hand corner, just to the left of "Sign in", then use the camera icon for searching against the URL of your uploaded photo.) Some of the bulbs I've bought aren't for use in enclosed areas; I found that out after I bought them. So I can't use them with Victorian globe lamps.

Amazon is still delivering, isn’t it? (Or is it? Dang, I have no idea how this new world works!). I just tried Amazon Fresh for the first time. Sadly, you have to select a fairly short "delivery time frame", and there aren't any slots through the middle of the week, so Amazon won't let you "pull the trigger". (Wife is making banana bread and needed some Nutella. I needed coffee. But "no go".) The regular cart seems to be working fine, however, so maybe you can get it through that. They are warning that delivery times are longer now, and they're asking you if - should you not need something right away - you could take the later delivery time, though that's at the usual rate of "free". FYI: I'm on "Prime". have you tried a photo search? I did that, autumnmist, but found nothing. There were a lot of Concord globe lamps, but none that looked like rebeccad's circa 2000 fan. I should note that image searching for "Concord ceiling fan" also, for some strange reason, got me a picture of a Concorde supersonic airliner!?!.

gabby , seems like you're always a step ahead of me. I could have searched as well, using the photo she posted, but for some reason I didn't even think of that. I guess her fan might be unique. It does have a nice vintage look though.

gabby , seems like you're always a step ahead of me. I'm sure that's not true. I see myself as slow and dense. Most of the time, I don't see what everyone else was aware of a few weeks back - sometimes you could make that 'years back'. This is especially true about anything concerning the Kardashians or Tom Brady or that stuff. I call my brother to find out which NBA teams are trading whom.I could have searched as well, using the photo she posted, but for some reason I didn't even think of that. You know what? When I rant about those who miss words that are misspelled, I keep thinking about all the "tools" we have around to help. I use them all the time because I'm so dense!Number one for me is - have the danged browser 'spellchecker' turned on! On Mozilla, it's under Options->General->Language, "Check your spelling as you type." On Chrome, it's Settings->Advanced <pulldown>, then the subheading 'Languages'. Here you can select either "Basic spell check" or "Enhanced spell check". Sadly, if your misspelling is another valid word, browsers are mostly not smart enough to check to see if the word is appropriate. And you're on your own with grammar too. If you have some other browser, search Google for the setup instructions. If you are doubtful about a proper name or a fact someone posts, you can sometimes just select ("highlight") a word or the phrase you suspect and right click your mouse to get a menu. When you click the "Search Google for ...", look what happens (I purposely misspelled "Kardashian" for this) [/a] Easy, peasy, Japanesey (2 of the words in this phrase are misspelled because this is a stupid rhyming thing - they are both marked on my browser with wavy red lines!) I guess her fan might be unique. It does have a nice vintage look though I think her fan is fine. In fact, it's probably better than any of those I have in this house. It's the country that's broken. Cain't get any danged parts!

You're probably right that it's just frozen after all those years of use. Maybe get some WD40 on it to help free it up if you can. Then with someone gripping the metal part, give the glass dome some anti-clockwise pressure at the same time as applying a bit of upward pressure on it. Failing that, hit it with a hammer and go for the 'exposed light' look.

Yes, changing out the whole fixture is the right choice. Amazon is still delivering, isn’t it? (Or is it? Dang, I have no idea how this new world works!). First since it is older the manufacturer was assuming the users will have to change bulbs. Shouldn't need tools or to remove screws (famous last words). As for replacement bulbs why do you think they are specialized? Likely it is a standard bulb socket with a max 40 or 60 watt rating. Old school because of heat issues. You should be able to put whatever LED in there that suits your brightness needs. They just get warm.

I think they are specialized halogens because I’ve already had bulbs burn out in 2 matching fixtures (though those were without fans, they are all a matched set), and that’s what why have. And no, they aren’t the kind of halogens that fit real sockets, but funny ones that sort of plug into a little slot... ugh. One of those @#$%#$%^ brilliant ideas someone had at some point and rushed to production without thinking. (Also probably cheap, because this house was part of a tract development and I see enough things around it that were cheap shortcuts... if I decide to do it, I can spend the next 2 years upgrading fixtures and things, as well as doing something about some drywall work that’s not holding up.

I recently had to replace some weird speciality fixtures that did not have traditional bulbs. One of the six fixtures started flickering. I like the new fixtures much better. My place was built in 2000.

This might be the LED version. Did they look like this: Nope. Can't recall exactly, but they had a socket on only one end.

My place was built in 2000. Yeah, I don't really have a problem with replacing them, though I don't mind the old fixtures. The new light/fan combo is tighter to the ceiling, though, which is an improvement. I'll probably try to order another, and let it arrive when it arrives (after the crisis?).
