davesenesac - I have wondered if a study of those with schoolage children vs those without would support such findings. My hunch would be "yes". Children being incubators of coronaviruses and such. I also noted that SE Asia seemed to make out better (relatively) than other parts of the world. Possibly because they're exposed to more/related coronaviruses there.

Well, I got hit with a consequence of Covid I never saw coming.
It's time to renew my boat insurance. The value of my boat has declined from last year (depreciation), my insurance score is the same as last year, and I have never filed a claim. Yet, my insurance premium went up 15 percent. I called the insurance company to find out why and ended up talking to a supervisor. He told me that, because of Covid, a lot of people bought boats for the first time. These inexperienced boaters ended up filing a lot of claims the insurance company had to cover. So the cost of insurance went up for everyone.

7.5 months since contracting COVID… just in the last couple weeks I’ve noticed som improvement in taste/smell. My wife is still dealing with a viral rash related to (or aggravated by) COVID. But both of us are gaining ground!

Just looking at the Sierra, for residents and visitors, California’s reopened (CNN) officially - pretty much - and many businesses will be on the honor system .. trusting unmasked customers are vaccinated. Somethings still require masks like public transit. That said more employers are telling workers to come back in for that warmed over coffee and semi-stale donut!! (hashtag: benefits!!) Traffic has changed though with less in the downtown cores and more in the burbs .. www.latimes.com/business/story/2021-06-15/commuting-returns-workers-lifestyle-changesPlan accordingly if driving. I’m planning to take the “eastern Sierra” bus up 395 to near my TH and then from Tahoe, the AMTRAK bus to train back so I’ll have to bring my mask for public transit, despite being fully vaccinated.

A local trend I've been noticing in our county... we're averaging only 10-15 new cases per day now, but also averaging around 3-5 new hospitalizations per day, and about 1/3 of hospitalizations are in the ICU. Both the % of cases requiring hospitalizations and % of hospitalizations in ICU are about 3x more than earlier in the pandemic. Not sure if the current infections are more severe, or if increased capacity of hospitals means they're admitting more borderline cases.

In case you see a similar headline, it's not as scary as it would seem... Almost 4,000 fully vaccinated people in Massachusetts have tested positive for COVID-19Nearly 4,000 fully vaccinated people in Massachusetts have tested positive for COVID-19, according to recent data from the state Department of Public Health.
The number of breakthrough cases in the state has been infrequent so far -- accounting for approximately one in 1,000 vaccinated people.
As of June 12, there were 3,791 coronavirus cases among the more than 3.7 million fully vaccinated individuals in Massachusetts, reports said.www.foxnews.com/health/4000-fully-vaccinated-tested-positive-virus-massachusetts

I expect a rise in confirmed cases in my county near the end of August, after the formerly annual Dream Cruise is once again resurrected after a Covid interruption. With an average attendance of 1 million (+/-), and no cruise last year, I anticipate that Woodward Avenue, the adjacent streets, motels and eateries will be packed and people congregated if not massed person to person watching cars drive back and forth up and down Woodward Avenue, or examining the Corvettes, which typically have a parking lot all to themselves.
I have the benefit of seeing the cars as they begin meandering in a few days earlier, so I'll do my sightseeing from the safety of my car. But the others, especially those who are still deniers, will likely be packed person to person, camped out, and spending all day or all weekend long watching the extraordinary collection of fascinating vehicles. Then they'll return to their home states, leaving on both sides of Woodward Avenue a mess of food wrappings and other garbage, but perhaps taking with them any exposure they got from others, including the non-vaxxers and deniers.

Good news: Locally, in the past week, the new daily infections averaged in the single-digits. Bad news: About half ended up in the hospital.

Same here with the New York State Fair. Cuomo has already said no masks, no proof of vaccination needed. Schools start the following week.

walkswithblackflies , I anticipate a lot of name calling and blame shuffling when the next outbreak occurs. And it seems as though the potential of the DELTA variant is not yet being factored into potential outcomes.

Some good news is that the WH reports over 70% of Americans over age 30 have gotten at least one dose of vaccine (HuffPo) so that likely means more elderly folk are at a higher % (age being a big risk factor). Sort of bad news on the personal front, despite everyone in my family being vaccinated, is my elderly stepmom has become very germaphobic due to COVID and norovirus on a cruise right before (winter 2019) kinda permanently affecting her, … so not sure I’ll really be able to visit my father besides a “fly-by” in the DFW area. Meet family at a highly sanitized restaurant I’m guessing (maybe a dining trend?). . [events] ... though the potential of the DELTA variant is not yet being factored into [plans] . Probably depends on age and other factors. Young people have tend to always think they’re invincible (jump that shark filled moat on my bicycle - gimme that beer so I can do it one handed!!), but older people tend to be more risk averse. My elderly parents (above in this post), fully vaccinated since late March w/Pfizer, are deathly worried about it being in their 80s (thinking they spend all their time scanning COVID news). They won’t be going to the Texas Fair in south Dallas. Imagine there’ll be less elderly attend in Michigan (?) as the delta variant spreads.. As for myself I’m trying to avoid crowds even fully vaccinated.
