From reading these posts, it might be more fun, and helpful, to have a list of the favorite places we have each hiked. Yes, that would run the risk publicizing them...but making of list of the favorite places we haven't seen and don't know seems straight our of Dada.
And just to be a language jerk---when you come to hike in the Sierra Nevada, leave off the "s" at the end. It's the Sierra. Sierra means mountain range.
That said, the Northern part of Yosemite, the eastern part of the Emigrant Wilderness, the Hoover Wilderness. The Upper Reaches of the Merced Canyon in Yosemite, and just about the whole eastern side of the Sierra...those are places we know and love. And hope that not too many of you visit at the same time...

Well over 5 decades, I've done over 200 backpacks in the Sierra Nevada and as a landscape photography enthusiast have hiked in many other aesthetic locations in California but only modest numbers outside the state. To be honest, I've hardly made a dent in what is possible worth trail hiking even in the Sierra, much less off trail exploring. In fact of the Sierra zones I've visited multiple times like the Minarets, there are many more difficult to reach interesting and or aesthetic places off trails I've looked at on topos, that I've simply not yet made time to hike or climb to. Many of these places are vast vast beyond what anyone can hike or explore even in a lifetime. Places like Death Valley NP have enormous empty areas where no one has even tread in decades if ever. And aesthetically many places are from my perspective only worth visiting in narrow seasonal windows, at narrow times of day, given uncommon weather conditions.
As for interesting and worthwhile places in the rest of the USA and world, am interested in reading about wherever while since decades ago have been content and without envy, to remain focused on those places nearby I know well.

Ahem.
Making a list of our favorite places--those that we haven't seen--seems to come straight out of Dada.
But if you like Dada, the first version was better.

FWIW, I didn't ask "best places you've hiked" because we've done that a million times before. (Although, to be fair, we've probably done this aspirational version of the question a half a million times.) Also, as you acknowledged, balzaccom, people are sometimes reluctant to direct others to their most beloved secret places.

Except willow lake, that might be on my list. A few years ago, one of those "outdoor adventure experience for youth" type organizations took a group to Willow Lake and really took a crap (literally) on LNT principles. Apparently it was really bad: human waste and trash everywhere, etc. I assume it's been restored (to the extent possible) since then. That’s sounds wonderful. Maybe it’d keep the crowds away? So an area to add to this thread, that I Have hiked several times, is the Flat Tops in Colorado. I think it’s the lack of people I’ve encountered there, the fishing that keeps drawing me back and makes me want to explore it more. It’s not the high mountain scenery you’ll encounter in Colorado but I really like the terrain. And it’s only 4ish hour drive from me.

Wapack Trail MA-NH - Been on my list since a wee lad hopefully a "to do" for homesick senior citizen. Maybe this fall for leaf peeping season. North Bass Trail GCNP Bailed in Spring '95 due high water and fast flow in Shinumo Creek caused by extreme snowmelt on North Rim. Cancelled in November '19, area closure due to Ike Fire Have permit request ready for submission May 20th for late October target start date. Colorado Bicentennial Peaks (101-200)Any peak on list. 94 to go! Very difficult question. Too many choices. A true sensory overload!
