A box containing what initially appeared to be puppies in fact sheltered 2 black bear cubs. The box was apparently placed on someone's lawn, then turned over to the local Sheriff's office, which contacted a bear rehabber. This occurred in late Jan., in NC. I think the tale of who and how they were rescued might be interesting, but I'm hoping if it's ever learned, that the cubs weren't abandoned b/c someone disposed of their mother. The cubs were found in a sweatshirt, so I suppose some DNA checking could be done to determine if the wearer had a criminal record. Anyone know if hunters have to provide fingerprints when they get licenses? www.msn.com/en-us/lifestyle/lifestyle-buzz/man-finds-a-box-of-abandoned-puppies-—-who-are-actually-bears/ar-BB101p7U?ocid=spartandhpThey are cute and cuddly little furballs; I hope they're able to survive.

Hunter's do not give fingerprints for their license. An interesting story. Wonder if mom was hit by a car and the young were left. I saw that with young fawns and a fellow bundled them up and took them to an animal rescue that specialized in deer.

They are so young that my previous comment can't be possible. A couple weeks old? Something strange went on.

hikingtiger , they're basically the same article, with the same photos. I checked the link and it worked for me. Not sure what happened, but I'm glad you found another article. crawford , the article reported that they were less than 3 weeks old. I mulled over the following comment, but couldn't read anything into it. Still, I wondered. "They were entirely dependent on their mom, but something had gone wrong." What went wrong? Was there something that was left out of the article? That was my first thought, and that something happened to their mother, perhaps in her den. I'm assuming since the article stated that they couldn't walk, that they must have been either in the den or removed by someone to someplace else.

Was there something that was left out of the article? I think that's the question that everyone has. What happened that the cubs were not with their mother.
