That's one good sized bear. I can't believe how close some of those people were, especially the guy walking backwards while videoing the bear.

My take? "A 400-pound bear took a trip to a LA suburb, and residents were fascinated"Well, I just keep seeing this stuff. Oh, hey! Not the bear - the grammatical error in the headline! The rule is that the "a" or "an" preceding a word should match with the beginning of the immediately following word for sound, not spelling. "Los Angeles" would require an "a". "LA" requires an "an" because the sound of "L" is "el", which is a vowel sound. "A Los Angeles cop." - but "An LA cop." "A" is used with consonant sounds. (in the word immediately following the article) "An" is used with vowel sounds. (in the word immediately following the article)Which is the correct grammar, “editing a L.A. site” or “editing an L.A. site”?
That would be “editing an L.A. site”. L is pronounced as “el” and so the sound begins with a vowel.
In this case your dots already make it clear that it's an abbreviation but in case you didn't have those dots, putting “an” before would mean that you want the readers to read it as L.A. In contrast putting “a” before would mean that you want them to read it as la.
This is more evident in abbreviations that sound like words. For example,
An MAC = An Em Ey See
A MAC = A Mac www.quora.com/Which-is-the-correct-grammar-%E2%80%9Cediting-a-L-A-site%E2%80%9D-or-%E2%80%9Cediting-an-L-A-site%E2%80%9D For more details, see writingexplained.org/a-vs-an-difference

Very slow. It's overcast and dreary out. But I get where you're coming from. Virtually no one believes that my "quibble" is important. :^D

Oh, hey! Not the bear - the grammatical error in the headline! Slow evening? Nope. Just normal gabby. While I'm quite capable of taking a thread off the rails based on questionable connections, gabby is prone to unfettered prose, bordering on free, unstructured verse which most of us shall never fathom.

“a LA” bugs me too, and I noticed it immediately in the headline, but I doubt I would have spent an entire post on its shortcomings. Gabby is not so much a Grammar Nazi as he is a Stream Of Consciousness Grammar Philosopher. I like Gabby Back to LA, a 400 lb black bear is a big one. In general, California and North Carolina have the largest black bears in the USA.

I like Gabby Me to. Yes, the improper use of "a" vs. "an" and "advice" vs. "advise" bug me. Just not that much. edit: oh yeah, "to" vs. "too"

edit: oh yeah, "to" vs. "too" :^D Unjustified adulation is a good sign of humorous intent. :^D ETA: At least, that's how I'm taking it.

Gabby’s grammatical stream of consciousness delighted me. I, too, wig out over all the above errors. And “should of/could of” constitutes a capital offense.

Wildlife does get into western cities sometimes. Usually it is mountain lion, as bears go after rural community trash cans. Thinking this bear just wandered... Los Angeles had a male mountain lion (P-22) that somehow managed to avoid the even deadlier Los Angeles driver and make a home in a large city park (Griffith Park). Apparently there’s enough deer and other small animals to sustain it. If losing a poodle nearby however... laist.com/2017/08/01/p_22.phpNo word if P-22 has found an agent or is accepting scripts yet.
