Greetings! I'm K. Im a highschool senior from Denver, planning my first thru-hike on the Colorado Trail for this summer. I have had experience backpacking in Guadalupe National Park in Texas, and along sections of the CT. For my trip i'm looking to replace some of my gear for lighter alternatives. I'm looking for a lightweight womens backpack and 1 person tent (<2 Lbs). Because I am a student, I am on a tight budget and looking to either trade my gently used osprey pack or buy a used one for less than $100-$200. Same for then tent although I don't have one to trade. If anybody is willing to help out please let me know! Happy to be here, thanks in advance.

You just missed the sale on the Six Moon Designs Lunar Solo. It was $184, now back to $230. Used gear could be a good option for you.

Try the gear for sale subforums on backpacking forums, Gear Trade, Ebay, Craigslist, and also thrift stores.

Thrift stores can be great for good deals. It’s not like you’re gearing up for an Everest solo assault. Less about gear than about knowledge and some practicality of plans.

I've bought two Tarptents and a Lightheart on Backpackinglight's "gear swap" forum (https://backpackinglight.com/forums/?id=xfCC3StY:68.40.58.20). You need a paid membership ($7) to be able to participate (i.e. post, send messages, etc.) I think used gear is a great way to start and BPL members tend to replace gear often, so good opportunity to get items in good condition. Good luck!

The folks on BPL are trustworthy in my experience; they won't put up gear that is not fully functional. If there are any faults (i.e., holes, tears, repairs), they will be honest about it. backpackinglight.com/forums/forum/commerce/gear-swap/

If you're looking for a cheap tent, you might want to consider this one. In Denver, check out Wilderness Exchange (gear consignment shop). OutdoorsGeek is a Denver based gear rental company. They sell their used rental gear every year at a discount.

I've also had good luck on the BPL gear forums. But if I lived in Denver, I'd probably target in-person transactions, at places like the ones Lamebeaver mentioned, or via craigslist.

I’ll vouch for BPL. You can see the history of the poster and if they’ve been posting long term ... it’s a 99.999999% chance they won’t want their good name tainted by a rip-off.
Some fledgling new gear makers getting over their heads in new orders tends to be the only problem over there mostly.

Hope the OP has at least come back and seen some of the good advice. If so—hey, krock20, come back and tell us how the search is going!
