Every time I see this thread, I read “six packs”, which probably says something about my state of mind.
While I have much to say about six packs, I have considerably less to say about ski packs. However, I will say a true climber’s pack with its narrow profile would be my choice. These designs allow free arm movement while keeping the load close to your back.

Is it missing a cord pull or the actual tab that attaches to the zipper slider? If it’s the tab I’d judge that a flat out defect deserving a replacement by the retailer. Maybe a manager/owner would be whom to appeal to? MSR makes accessory cord pulls, I’ve seen them just yesterday in. REI. www.rei.com/product/106205/msr-night-glow-zipper-pulls

Retailer wouldn't exchange it, said it was a warranty issue (a separate gripe in itself). I call that as BS. It is a manufacturing/QC defect, not warranty. Did you buy it on line? If so, from whom? Rate them on their web site as not honoring their sales. If local, I'd let them know I would not shop there again and would pass the word along to friends.

Hardly ever order anything from them. Mystery Ranch emailed me back and said the reason the zipper didn't have a pull, was that the compartment wasn't meant to be accessed or used as a water bladder sleeve. Sort of strange because on the FAQs on their website, someone asks about water bladder sizing, and they responded that it fit most standard 2L bladders. I like the pack well enough, so i'm just going to take it in stride. High Sierra Fan ...here's a photo of what I'm talking about. I've already fashioned something to work in its place.

But yeah, a cord loop will work fine, so agree to just shrug it off. I'd still post it on a review for the pack on MR's website.

Then why go to the expense of building it in? That’s pretty weird. Is there a hose access port leading out? If not then that’s true. Still odd. eTA:Yesh, they lied to you. www.mysteryranch.com/d-route-pack

Is that a zipper pull I see in there? I did at first, but now it just looks like the zipper cover. In the video, the guy mentions that the pack "gives you enough room for an extra layer, a full snow safety kit, a day's worth of food and water", but goes into no detail about the bladder pocket. eTA:Yesh, they lied to you. Uh huh. But, since I don't really see a pull in there, I suspect it's the usual marketing stuff: "compatible" means, with just about anything you wish to choose, "we support it with the attachment points, but you're on your own if you want to add the "optional extras" or use the feature". The pic at the top captured from Mystery Ranch's video on the "D Route" page.
