I was was mostly joking. I do like Hersey kisses. Maybe they are just comfort food because of childhood fondness. They do have some advantages for hiking. They generally have a higher melt point than fine chocolate and since they have emulsifiers in them if they do melt and you cool it back down it is OK.
I recently converted to instant coffee on the trail. I drink it in the morning at camp and it is so good I swear I am going to just start drinking all the time at home. Then I try drinking it at home and am surprised how much it is instant coffee.
So maybe I should have said something like there is no such thing as bad chocolate on the trail.

So maybe I should have said something like there is no such thing as bad chocolate on the trail.Hersey's Tropical Chocolate from the 60's could give pause. As kids, my siblings and I would still break into Survivor Dad's stash, but it was the last resort.
