I have 3 lenses for those shots. A 55-300mm, a 200-500mm and a 70-400mm. The 200-500mm will probably go but not sure yet. The body is an APS camera so multiplay those numbers by 1.5 to get the equivalent magnification on 35mm (FF body)

this is another bird with a story. it's a bar tailed godwit. It migrates to Siberia or Alaska for summer there and then some stop here but most go to to New Zealand. Covers the 11,000 km in as little as 8 days (from banded birds records) Not a good photo but I was not sure how close I could get , still getting to know this one.

This photo I posted this morning having something to do with background blur (like that in the original photo, I don'do much post processing at all) One of three black shouldered kites that were in our area almost daily for months. (I hope they come back)

I took this photo during my trip to Florida with Roger and Zeke. Snowy Egret, if I recall correctly. Great shot! I think that's a Great Egret. The Snowy Egret is smaller, has a black beak and yellow 'slippers' feet:

Great shot! I think that's a Great Egret. Yes, a Great Egret. What an incredible photo. Ptarmigan, Denali. I'd say that's a Spruce Grouse. Gorgeous.

I'd say that's a Spruce Grouse. Gorgeous. Maybe. I looked it up when I got back, and came up with ptarmigan. It was changing colors as the weather got cooler. Either way, it probably tastes like chicken.

Anyway, that "veil" in Deborah's photo is beautiful! Yes, the great egret is also known as the great white heron. We call the white types egrets but they are part of the same family.

All the photos are stunning, some are majestic, some are graceful, some are stately, but they're all beautiful, absolutely beautiful. This is a thread I'll look at over and over again, when I crave the solace of seeing majestic creatures in their natural habitat.
Thanks to everyone who took the time to take the photos and to share them. They're soothing, relaxing and so inspiring....better than any kind of medicine, but then I've always thought nature and her creatures were in fact the best kind of medicine.
