Lots of effort went into the making of that video. It shows. Thanks a lot of the additional suggestions, I will certainly be looking into these options.

I wonder if we have ever crossed paths.

I wonder if we have ever crossed paths. Possibly, and not known it. I'm pretty active in the Tucson Backpacking Meetup Group (TUB). I'm an occasional trip leader within the group, in fact I'm taking a group of 8 down Grand Canyon's Hermit trail in early December to camp at Hermit Rapids on the beach.

We did Blackett’s Ridge yesterday and thanks to the 1736’ climb (from home according to Gaia) the views were tremendous. We did see snow on the peaks after the first couple of winter storms but didn’t see any yesterday. The Rincons and Saguaro Park peaks were a bit hazy and somewhat backlit but it appears the recent warm weather may have melted most of it. Could still be some up top but it isn’t enough to be easily visible like some years. The snow we could see on the higher peaks of the Catalinas is no longer visible. Supposed to get a bit colder next week but no precipitation in the forecast. That could change.

I'm not a member of a hiking group. Right now, I'm usually solo or doing multi-day hikes with a hiking buddy. Maybe one day I'll do a meetup. Usually, around town, I'm doing the music/bar scene downtown. We may have crossed paths and not known it. I'll probably spend some time at the Fourth Avenue Street Fair tomorrow. I'll be the old guy with a beard.

The latter has been pretty good in getting me to go to places I didn't know about or wasn't inclined to visit.

There is snow visible in the high country, Saguaro Park and other peaks, after the Christmas Eve storm and more forecast tonight. It is not supposed to warm up much for the next seven days so it might stay up there for a while. It was 38° this morning down in the desert. Had to wear a Houdini windshirt for the first mile but just a lightweight long sleeve stretchy shirt for the rest of the morning as the climbing was brisk and very warming.

Every place I considered for a road trip or cupla day hike had projected storms or snow. Just been piddling around town seeing friends and staying off the streets at night.

Thanks, swiftdream , for the update. I'll be continuing to monitor conditions, and making a plan b, c, and d. Sorry things didn't work out for your break, desert dweller , hope you're able to get out soon.

This is today. You can see the lower front range peaks and even they have snow. People from all over the country and many foreign accents from other places in the world are here trying to warm up. A bunch of them are from California but we saw many plates from the Midwest, Tennessee, Rode Island, British Columbia, etc. We are getting the storms after California and then they are sweeping all the way to the Deep South and up to Boston.

Thanks
We were trying to find a good foreground object to add to the farther mountainous terrain and girlfriend saw this saguaro and thought it looked like an elephant trunk. It fit the frame far better than some of the enormous saguaros did.
We got out this morning about an hour before sunrise and all the clouds were gone. The peaks were not obscured and had that alpenglow that looks so amazing. It was 27° in the desert. Mount Lemmon reports 30” of powder and they were skiing but the road up had been shut down yesterday as there was a preceding ice storm that now lies under the snow. This is the Catalina range but the Rincons are kind of attached by Redington Pass and lay just a few miles to the southeast. I’ll get a good look at them tomorrow.

Trinity we have tried to view conditions on top of the Rincons for the last few days and we are out too early to see anything but shadows of the massive mountain. I’m sure he conditions near the top are similar to the Catalinas but all the snow on the lower peaks has melted.
On another note a hiker was being eaten by three lions on a trail in the Catalinas not too far from where we hike. They tried to trap them but couldn’t so they euthanized them somehow. They don’t “think” the lions actually killed the hiker but they have not given the cause of death either.

but all the snow on the lower peaks has melted. There could still be snow and ice on the northern slopes. And also in the canyons.
