According to this interactive map of the Northville Placid Trail, West Stony Creek may be "difficult or impassable". I am planning to be there at the end of August 2020. Is the creek typically passable in late summer?

That report reflects the four inches of rain they just received, August is low water time.

In normal August flows, you won't have a problem. Your feet will get a lot more wet from the beavers dams and ponds along the NPT.

Yep. As jmitch alludes to, you'll come to curse beavers more than mosquitoes and deerflies.

One more question. Is Benson Rd. the trailhead most people begin/end on? Or is it Collins Gifford Valley Rd. in Northville?

Near the Fire Dept in Northville. There is then a 3.5 mile road walk before you enter the woods. Many used to start at Benson before they created the trail in the woods. The "arch" in Northville:
