Looking for a good trail to explore near friends in Florence AL. We want to do some back country camping. I looked up a few places and some have no camping at all, or campgrounds, not our idea of a real backpacking experience. Any recommendations of good trails where we can camp in seclusion? Difficulty level at least moderate and long enough we can make a couple days of it. thank you, happy trails!

The Sipsey Wilderness is about an hour drive SE of Florence (not sure if that's near enough to Florence). Lots of trails, so working out a loop is easy enough. Check out sipseywilderness.org. You should be able to find a trail map at Mountain High Outfitters or Alabama Outdoors (and possibly online). Plenty of places to make camp so that you're not near others. Note: the Sipsey River (and it's tributaries) drain a large area, so water levels can go WAY up quickly. Here's what the Christmas Day rains did. Just keep a close eye on the forecast.
