Hey guys! I've lived in NE for only a few years, but am thrilled to be here (from Florida) and able to enjoy a mich greener great outdoors.
I'm looking for any general advice anyone may have for a fairly new hiker/camper. I've been on a few trips, only one recently, the rest when I was very young, with scouts. The recent trip was an overnight, with a 2-mi hike in, with a cousin about my experience level. It went really well, though makes for a really good story too, cause we were probably less prepared than we thought haha.!
I do have pepper spray, cookware, matches and a lighter, a sleeping bag and a backpack, though I need to investor a more appropriate pack.

Hi! Welcome, and glad to see you. Feel free to ask any questions you want; you'll get tons of great input about gear in that forum, too. You take me back to my early trips--all with guys, because I didn't know any backpacking women at that point! Still, those guys taught me a lot--doing early trips with someone more experienced can short-cut the learning process One thing to know: just because a piece of gear is supposed to be for women doesn't mean it will be the best fit (heck, that's even true of clothes, for me!). When you go to get that new pack, take your gear, and try on everything, then stuff your gear into the best candidates and see how it fits, and how the pack feels loaded. Where do you hang out and do your hiking?

Oops--missed that you are in the NE. I think there are some active Forum members from that part of the world.

I agree with getting the right fit for a pack. I tried several, both men's and women's packs, before going with a men's pack. It took over an hour to find the right pack for me. The salesperson was very patient and accommodating.
