In the fog and drizzle. Entertaining myself and wanted to see if I could post with my phone. Now back to standing watch.
Edit -- Can someone walk me through how to post a photo from my phone? I know that's been covered in a thread before but I can't find it.

In your smart phone log into Backpacker Base Camp Use your usual log in criteria.
Scroll down as far as it goes.
Click on desk top.
Once in desk top mode, it is identical to what you are used to. Fonts are smaller. Upon completion switch back to Mobile Version

Isn't TJCeeJay off the British Columbia coast? And daveg 's east of me, on the E. coast of Michigan. Or am I missing something? reuben , with your keen sense of humor, I never know what you're really thinking!

Nice! A little small for the Great Lakes though? Yours?

Yes, it's mine. Had it for 13 years. Perfect size for me. The boat is small by modern standards. Current hull designs have a lot more interior volume, so the interior of my boat is comparable to a modern 28 footer. But it's fine for extended cruising for two.
As far as safety and seaworthiness, it's a bluewater boat and can handle pretty much anything the Great Lakes can dish out. The previous owners sailed it across the Atlantic three times. It's slow and has more motion than a larger boat, but it can take a lot more than I can, so I feel totally secure on board.

daveg, I love the photo. I can feel the mist on my skin. And it's bringing back photos of sitting on the docks, fishing.

Always been on my mind to buy an inexpensive sailboat and travel the Inside Passage. Having zero sailing experience is a concern.

Always been on my mind to buy an inexpensive sailboat and travel the Inside Passage. Having zero sailing experience is a concern. There are quite a few older bluewater sailboats in the 30 - 35 foot range. Longer boats are faster and more comfortable. But ultimately it comes down to construction. There are lots of boats on the Great Lakes that are larger than mine that are not considered bluewater boats. Sailing is a skill that can be learned. What I have found to be more important is whether one enjoys it. The image of a cruising sailor that is portrayed is different from the reality. And there's no way to know if you will like the reality until you try it. Better to take lessons, crew for others, and charter a boat before making the investment a boat. No different than a person who is interested in backpacking but has no experience.

Sailing classes will also tell you if you are going to spend the whole time puking over the rail, which might make the cruise a little less pleasant :D
