Any good areas for backpacking in the Hoosier state, aside from Charles C Deam? There is a long trail in the Harrison-Crawford SF down south near the Ohio River. The Tecumseh Trail connects to trails in the Deem, and is 50 miles of mostly ridge line hiking, similar to the Knobstone Trail. We have lots of great day hikes all over the state, and some easy canoeing.

though I think the Front Range may boast the largest concentration of active, or formerly active, forum members, which I’m guessing is why PG happened there IIRC, the CO clan had planned a weekend hangout, then found that Chuck D was going to be in town one week after that date. They moved the hangout one week to accommodate Chuck, and voila! Pickle Gulch was born.

Good advice in this post by Deborah . We're still a long way from establishing a time an place. Winter does not especially appeal to me, but Pennsylvania does because I've never hiked there. Looking at the map for a location central to the entire US east of the Mississippi, Mount Rogers in SW Virginia kinda jumped out at me. It's a fairly straight shot on interstates coming from Maine to Florida and it it is a very special place, especially in mid-late June when (in a good year) the mountainsides are ablaze in blooming rhododendron with lots of open views. Plus, the open balds are host to herds of beautiful wild ponies. Not sure what kind of group campsites are nearby; but perhaps worth looking into.

I haven't tried to schedule a winter event in Upstate NY because... well... we really haven't had a winter. But finally it looks like we're FINALLY getting a good ol' fashioned lake effect beatdown. Some areas of the Tug Hill are expected to get upwards of 4 feet. Alas, I threw my back out on Monday and won't be partaking in a blizzard-associated expedition. ETA (2/26): The maps update automatically and total forecast amounts have been decreasing as we have received snow
