Camp shot (I'm not even saying "best", but it's a favorite). Darwin Bench, King's Canyon NP

Okay, one more. This one isn't great, photographically. It was getting pretty dim so it's not 100% clear and sharp. But it's a favorite for the meaning. On our pack trips this summer, Eldest Son wrote a chapter every day in his fantasy epic (think Tolkien). And every night after dinner he read it to us. Here he is, reading his chapter, and his dad listening while enjoying the evening light.

I don't know about my "best" (since I can only upload from facebook photos) but here's a photo from the spring and the unexpected wildflower bloom.
edit: actually this is in the winter

Touch choice. I'll toss up, say, my three favorite photos from this year... It's not the sharpest or most colourful photo; however this shot of the darkened woods and clouds reflecting near perfectly upon the still water in the dying light as my backpacking buddy sits by the unreflected campfire is probably my favorite backcountry shot of the year. The fire seems to pierce the darkness as a sole refuge in the deep, dark woods. Queen Elizabeth II Wildlands, OntarioI spent some time in Japan this summer and so it would be tough to not include a shot from there. My favorite place was easily the Okunoin cemetery in Koyasan. Massive ancient cedar trees intermingled with equally ancient tombs and gravestones made for a surreal walk. Coupled with gorgeous weather, the photos from that day are beautiful and numerous, and so picking just one is tremendously difficult. Okunion Cemetery, Koyasan, JapanIt's hard to spend so much time at work, taking so many work-related photos and not have a favorite. A rock tunnel in Hamilton, Ontario with bare rock walls and minimal ceiling support. Faults in the rock mass can bee seen in the walls. The next work crew walks into the tunnel in the distance with a solitary muck car in the foreground. Hamilton, Ontario

August 2015 from the Death Canyon Trail looking down onto Phelps Lake in the Grand Teton National Park. Not really my best, but it's these "iconic to me" photos of glacier fed lakes surrounded by pristine forest that put me on this trail in the first place. I was alive to see this and it means allot to me.

I'm seeing a theme here--it's too hard to pick a photographically "best" photo, so many of us are going with emotional resonance. I like it.

Yes Rebecca...if this was labeled my "favorite" photo from 2015, this might be the one Summer solstice sunset viewing on Lembert Dome

I think this probably qualifies as my best. I really liked the way it turned out.
