Over the last few months life has somewhat overwhelmed me, and I lost whatever fitness I had.
Then I contracted my worst ever sinus infection, triggered as usual by pollen (stupid trees, why do they need to be so promiscuous?). As usual, it worked its way down into my chest. A few nights ago I had to sleep sitting in a chair so I wouldn't start to drown, snore, and keep waking myself up, which is very annoying. One night I woke up three times needing to cough, sat up in bed and proceeded to wheeze and gasp - but not cough - until I passed out. I fell on the nightstand the first time and got a knot and a little blood on my forehead, plus a smashed thumb. The next two times I positioned myself so that I fell back in bed when I passed out. Much safer.
It rained last night and was decidedly humid.
Those three strikes caused me to cut short one of my little local hikes this morning.
Nevertheless, I've recovered enough that some extended exercise, minimal though it may be, can help break up the remnants of the congestion.
But man, that was ugly.

Sorry to hear you are struggling. My wife gets the tree pollen allergy, and I know something of which you speak. Antihistamines only do so much for her. I think the scariest part of your story is the bump on the head. Had that occurred at a greater fall, real damage could've been done. Glad to hear you adjusted your fall zone.

Dang, @reuben , you sound like your avatar. I don't generally have trouble with pollen/allergies, at least not that lasts more than a few minutes. I thought that had changed for me last week after I mowed the yard in a blizzard of cottonwood fuzz, but it turns out I just happened to come down with a cold at the same time. Anyway, I agree with Zeke--good call adjusting your fall zone.

That sounds horrible. I've always figured I would eventually be done in by a respiratory infection. I hope it gets better.

Ugh..... That sounds awful. My chest colds usually wake me up 3-4 times a night with coughing fits, but I've never passed out. Hope you have a quick and full recovery.

I managed to complete my basic circuit this morning. It took 2.25 hours, which isn't much, and is also a few minutes longer than normal. Certainly nothing to be proud of.
I blame it on rising heat and humidity and straightening out a group which unknowingly veered off of the trail. They were looking for "the lake" on their cellphones, which is actually where all of the little streams converge to form a river.
The added time surely couldn't be because of lingering congestion and lack of fitness, right?
Next I need to add on some of my standard options to make it longer again. A lower dew point would surely help.
Baby steps.

Geez. Take care of yourself. I have allergies, but never anything like that. OTOH, I managed to sprain a thumb doing a minor household project this morning. Which then forced me to lie on the floor with my feet up so I wouldn't pass out. So I can sort of relate to the passing out thing.

It's horrible. I wish you a speedy recovery. I also have a summer allergy to flowering, but I have no such symptoms.

Respiratory problems are no joke. My spouse is currently suffering again. He has a condition that makes him subject to infection and he is working in a hospital...no germs there...
Although I am 300 miles away from him, I, too, have a cough and sore throat and for no apparent reason, a week ago, I had a temperature of 102.4*. I am happy that it didn't go into my lungs. Maybe something I picked up in the cesspool of germs in Yosemite.
A big water year here makes for lots of pollen too. The dang cottonwood has produced fuzz in stages, since April. We still have one tree in the yard that has lots of little green balls still waiting to send forth the fuzzy snow.
Good luck with recovery and achieving your desired fitness levels.
