There are traffic jams going up, and people are dying in traffic jams trying to get down. At least 7 have died this week, some of whom were stuck in the line to GET DOWN.
I don't get it. I hate traffic. I go outdoors to get AWAY from people, not get in a deadly conga line.

Whoever would have thought that traffic gridlock could become a problem on Mt. Everest?

I've seen shorter lines for concert tickets and bathrooms.

If I stepped out of my tent at the highest camp and saw 7000 headlamps not moving, you'd have a hard time convincing me to give it a go.

This looks like it's at the Hillary Step but I could be wrong. Whatever your idea of mountaineering is, this isn't it. This is a farce. This is what happens when you turn an adventure into a business. Rumi

Ed Viesturs said there are no shortcuts to the top, but I'm thinking if you gave everyone in line a fistful of cash, they might help you crowd-surf to the top...
More on topic, is that backup the daily experience now or is it just the first day of cooperative weather in a while?

More on topic, is that backup the daily experience now or is it just the first day of cooperative weather in a while? It's a good weather day. A relatively safe day. Line up!

I'd rather walk around Central Park.

is that backup the daily experience now or is it just the first day of cooperative weather in a while? One article says that 481 permits to climb Everest were issued by Nepal this year, which is apparently a record high. My understanding is that the climbing season is April and May. This year, there were 2 windows, with only 5 summit days. Article says typically there are 7-12 favorable days.

I knew when they reached the top of Everest in a helicopter it marked the end of the holy mountain. Fireant humans are the plague of the planet but hopefully we'll have 10 billion of us in the next 10 years to create even longer lines.
