On my recent eight day trip in the Grand Canyon I tried out a couple soup mixes from Idahoan brand, Loaded Potato and Cheddar Broccoli Potato. I supplemented them both adding bacon jerky, FD cheese, FD broccoli, FD corn, Nido, and topped them off with Jalapeno and Red Pepper Salad toppings I wrote about in another thread. I cooked them freezer bag style and it worked well. I added the Crispy Jalapeno and Crispy Red Pepper bits just before eating. I enjoyed it immensely. I like stuff like this which I can customize myself easily. I carry most of the stuff separately and add depending on my mood. When I need a big meal I can add more and when I am not as hungry, I add less. On this particular trip, I always added the max, reserving stuff for other meals. One caveat is that the soup mix itself is kinda heavily processed stuff. The upside is that it rehydrates/cooks in a freezer bag rather than simmering over a flame. The soup mix comes in a bag with four servings @ 210 calories per serving. One serving, which is what I used, was 1/3 cup dry mix added to 1 cup of H2O. I added a bit more H2O because of the added goodies in it. With all the other stuff added, it turned out having sufficient calories along with the taste. Idahoan has three "flavors" but I did not get the Creamy one, so I can't speak to it. Rumi

On my last backpacking trip I did half a package of the Idahoan loaded potato soup and added a foil pack of salmon. It made an incredibly tasty chowder! Very simple and economical freezer bag meal for one.

I haven’t seen those. I will have to test them out. I also like things like that for our long car trips when groceries are hit and miss.

Nor have I. Seems like there would be many ways to doctor them up. Gonna keep an eye out. Are they found in the dried soup section or dried potato section? Adding a packitgourmet chicken ramen rescue and some olive oil would be nice.

Used these as well with great success. If adding freeze dried or dehydrated meats I usually toss them into the water and let them come to a boil before adding to the potato powder. Otherwise you can end up with crunchy meat.
