Will be interesting to see what flood damage comes the spring thaw. Predict not only Yos, but a lot of the east side access gets compromised.
TPR and Tuolumne Meadows will see significant impact.

I've seen some numbers indicating that the snow pack isn't as deep as it was 2 years ago, with the predicted opening of passes by mid-June. That may be, but the walls of snow along the road where CalTrans stops plowing Ebbetts Pass are close to 30' high. I won't be surprised if the passes don't open until July 4.

& I thought I just saw a 1-2 foot prediction for. more snowfall...
The other aspect is what happens in April-May. warm weather maybe with some warm rain can eat the snowpack down fairly rapidly making for easier clearing. Colder weather and the pack waits for the plows.,,,
The other general aspect is a lot of the campground infrastructure got damaged by a combination of heavy wet snow and beetle killed trees. Yosemite Vsllry has been canceling reservations left and right. I wonder what awaits like that up high.

I would not be surprised if the 120 and 140 are closed by flood damage and rockfall.

Agreed. Rockfall is an often overlooked challenge. Mesa Verde is closed right now from a big rockfall.

From Yosemite - We appreciate your patience with delays and changes to park operations due to the heavy snow this winter. We have two updates to share today:
😀 Repairs to Upper Pines Campground facilities are nearing completion, and the campground is set to reopen this Friday, April 12!
😞 Yosemite's High Sierra Camps will not open this year due to above-average snowpack, lack of access to water for bathrooms and kitchens, and other infrastructure challenges. Tuolumne Meadows Lodge and White Wolf will open (it's too early to predict when; dates will depend on when Tioga Road opens). If you had a reservation at one of the High Sierra Camps, you will be contacted directly.

The odd one in that is all the HSC infrastructure has got to be under maybe ten plus feet of snow so it’s recent state can’t be determinable. Given that I wonder what’s the issue? The one I can guess is they had plans in place for critical projects which can’t be completed in time for a viable season now that it’s pretty clear the Tioga Rd opening is going to be late. Or?

A few days ago the park service announced that they would release flood prone campsites for this upcoming weekend. Yesterday they said "never mind."

Not going to help with Tioga Rd clearing either. A big wet dump could easily slide over the consolidated pack and drop a lot more onto the Olmsted Pt avalanche zone for example.

I wonder if the campground in Tuolumne Meadows is ever going to open this year. I think backpacking before mid August is going to be very difficult with the snow melt and mud everywhere. Have they ever closed the backcountry due to the conditions?
