I've moved many times and every move involves a purge.
I've moved 17 times since 1979... somehow I've managed to hang on to a lot of this stuff! Not sure how...
Yep: I’ve tossed university textbooks, old Christmas decorations, magazines, but not recreational gear. Hence my having a semi-noserider Corky Carroll model Hobie longboard behind my couch.... no doubt my most impractical tchotchke

HSF: That Chouinard catalog is worth a lot of money. As is the GPIW gear. Nice! Lol. Yeah I was amazed a while back when I happened on a listing for the catalog in Chessler. Though neither of the two of that one I have are signed so not crazy money. Now that longboard? With Corky Carrol’s signature on the receipt ftom the Hobie shop in Dana Point? Crazy money. Smh

John, I had this exact same axe, even the same color. Mine was 60cm, got it in 1977.

I have a TNF down bag I still use in the fall.
I've also got a Coleman gasoline lantern that's at least 50 years old. I rarely use it, as the propane models are so much handier, but when you need a LOT of light, nothing works quite as well as white gas.

Good eye! Yes, a Trailwise Chevron. I’ve also got a Trailwise Ventile mountain parka which is still a great winter parka as it’s sewn seams don’t fail like modern thermal welds have (I just found out that’s inevitable!!! ). Plus it’s nice and long. My goto wasn’t that as it’s too heavy for summer, so it’s in a lot better shape than my Sierra Designs 60/40 bleached almost white for large sections and patched here and there with not matching ripstop tape.

Good eye! Yes, a Trailwise Chevron. I had one of those in ugly green. Got stolen from my tent in lower pines (Yos). Had to go to the mountain shop in Curry to buy another bag.

That’s awful: Yosemite front country has been better and worse over the years (i’d include Little Yosemite Valley in that, it’s never given me a very good feeling...). But mostly, from what I’ve heard around, worse. I’d bought mine from the Ski Shop paper catalog some friends had introduced me to. I did get to the Berkeley shop, but that was later.

Some Stuff I still have: Marmot Mountain Works Goretex Parka Circa 1986 Early Winters Goretex Bivy Bag Circa 1978 REI Interalp Ice Axe Circa 1977 Salewa Crampons Circa 1976 Chouinard/Montbell Overbag and VBL Circa 1986 REI Polarguard Booties Circa 1977 SIGG Pots and Water Bottles Circa 1975 - 1977 Svea 123 Stove Circa 1975 Dachstein Mittens Circa 1976 Sierra Cup Circa 1975 North Face June Bug Tent Circa 1986 (My son has this item and still uses it) Various Stuff Bags, Snow Lion, TNF, Mountain Equipment, Etc. Circa 1975-1985 Karhu XCD GT Skis with Chouinard Cable Bindings Circa 1986 Merrell Snowfield Leather XC Boots Circa 1986
Lovett XC Skis, Boots, Exel Poles Circa 1978 Nice list. You must be as old as me. I've had several of thos pieces but they got jettisoned during my moves. Lived in 18 different cities. Wish I had the Svea 123, a lot of memories there. Dachstein wool gear is classic. I learned to turn in the sierra on Karhu XCD's. Here's the story: Helped Doug Robinson hump loads over Half Moon Pass (Rock Creek Canyon) to support a guided trip. After carrying a 50 lb. load over the pass, we dropped the loads at the lake west of the pass. After coming up from near sea level the day before, I was spent. Still had a seven mile ski out. I'd always side slipped on steep slopes before, but the time left meant we needed to get down quick before it got dark. So it was go for it. I fell down many times. It got to the point where falling took too much energy to get up. Out of desperation I committed to making the turns. It worked! After that got pretty profficient on the steeps in 3 pins.

Yeah, the ugly green was awful. Can't believe anyone would want to steal it. Had that bag for over ten years and loved it. On a more serious note, yeah, it was a bummer to come back to the tent, see the zipper open, look in and see the tent had been raided. Since then, whenever I camp in a campground everything gets packed in the car if I leave camp.
