By default, I'm notified by email of updates to threads I participate in since I don't pop in too often. There are some I no longer wish updates on, but I can't see any way to set a new notification setting for individual threads. If that is possible how do I do it?

Profile> Edit Profile> Notifications> Thread you participate in.
It is all or nothing, it appears. You can set it for less frequently, as in weekly rather than daily, etc...

WHAT??? Someone doesn't read every new post, in every thread that interests them? Who is this. and why aren't they being flagellated?

"By default, I'm notified by email of updates to threads I participate in since I don't pop in too often."
That's not the default as I never receive ANY email notifications: something got selected on: so you'd easiest select that back "off".
Okay you can turn that "off" here: Profile:Edit Profile: Settings
then there's a list of what you can select for email notification:
Two of which are, Bookmark A thread you have bookmarked is updated Participated A thread you have participated in is updated
I'd say if you selectively want email use "bookmark" and leave "participated" turned to NO, that way when you're done with a thread you can un-bookmark it and be done with it.

New info from Support: How to Unsubscribe from a single thread:
If it's in the Participated box, just mouse over the thread and tick its checkbox. Then:
If not New: - select Actions > Mark as New - go to next step
If New (or marked as new) - select Actions > Mark As Read > Forever
You will no longer be notified if that thread gets replies.

Good question. That gets a different message that lets you know, but the Participation stays quiet.

I'll learn not to participate in a thread It took some time to find that this works: If you participate in a thread and weary of seeing the Participated alert. Open that list, see CheckBox before the thread's title and select (check) it. Then see the Actions menu top in that window, drop it open to see Mark aa Read>FOREVER! Then when others carry on, you don't get alerted.

Even though the thread still shows as being read, I'm also still getting emails for each new post.

this is no longer working I think I missed a step! You should open your PROFILE and choose to EDIT, then see NOTIFICATIONS in the top line of sections to open. Open Notifications and see a list of options that trigger email alerts to your account. I think that must have a checkmark to ask for a notice? UNcheck that and see if that helps.

That will turn off emails for ALL threads, not just one. I seem to have missed it before. However, I would have to remember to bookmark the threads I actually posted in. If there was a way to auto-bookmark threads I participate in, then it would be perfect and just like the "subscribe" functionality every other forum has.
