At this moment Mammoth Mountain is reporting 24 to 31 inches of new snow. I'm letting out my neighbor's dogs for the next few days as they are up in the town of Mammoth plowing snow.

Here in Carson City it is still snowing. I have about 7 inches on the ground, it will be almost a foot by tomorrow, late morning.

Only about 6' here in town since yesterday...elevation ~ 7,900'. The neighbor across the street just shoveled 8 feet off his roof...R3 here in Mammoth Lakes now! Forgot how much fun it was to dig out my car...again. Seeds for the little woodpeckers..ornery little critters.

It looks like it’s been a good one. Anything relying on good sky conditions is just such a craps shoot. Like for the eclipse two summers ago... while I did drive through what was projected as the totality zone (Jackson Wy etc) I kept going and had some nice views out in the Alabama Hills: but clouds had to clear at just the right time..,,
Special when it works out for sure but hanging the “success” of a vacation on something like that? Chancy.

This year was chancy for viewing success. The first year we went it was cloudy and stormy but still amazing to be in the valley. We went seven years in a row. Have seen it go from mild interest to crazy. This year no parking was available. I'll bet that drivers dropped off viewers and photographers to watch in the usual locations.

That “event” creation is a peculiar phenomena. Like the “Manhattanhenge” for NYC when sunset lines up with the Manhattan street grid.
ETA: Hmmm, was that the origin of Stonehenge? “How do we draw tourists to Salisbury Plain, such an unfortunate name, “plain”, sigh... ? I know, let’s set up some rocks that lineup with a sunset and sell concessionaire booth slots! We can also unload all those really big turkey legs we’ve got in the back.”
