It's strange how so many people take the easy way out. When I worked downtown Seattle in a really old building with a really slow elevator, people would wait up to a minute for the elevator (yes, that slow) rather than take the stairs right next to it. And there were only four stories in the building! Most only went up one floor!
I was talking with a guy that delivers food to office workers from various eateries. People get an hour for lunch but would rather have their lunch delivered to them than to walk a few blocks, even in the summer.
Anything over eight floors and I take the elevator. But I prefer to take the stairs almost anytime. The one exception for me is the moving walkways in airports because I am trying to get to a flight or out of the airport ASAP.
Anyway, a little exercise is better than none. anytime a person moves is good. Obviously moving more is better.

It’s one of the reasons I notice weight loss on long camping trips, even without a lot of big hikes. Everything you do requires walking, getting down and getting up, etc. Of course, if the majority of the time we’re driving, that’s nullified. But when we stop moving, we tend to hike all day AND have to walk another quarter mile to the bathroom or whatever... that adds up.
