Dang, I keep forgetting! Or maybe it has only been a week.
Last week I biked about 85 miles, did 1 strength pump class and 1 pilates class, and swam 3 times, for a total of just over a mile. I worked out every day, and I think I biked at least 5 miles every day, even when swimming 1/2 mile (which at this point is a pretty tough workout, after my 6-month no-swim break).
I was particularly proud of myself yesterday because I felt like crap and still managed to complete the pump class and biked a couple miles extra on the way home.

The last couple of weeks have been unproductive in the workout arena, for me. We had our tenant of a year vacate his apartment, found a new tenant, and cleaned the apartment to get it ready. And now my Mother is coming to visit this coming weekend, so I needed to work on our own house. To say I've been a little crazy would be an understatement.
Hoping once Mom is gone I can get back into my routine. Fingers crossed!

M: Trail run 3 miles with my daughter. Humid. Tu: Bike commute 15 miles. W: Bike commute 23 miles (19 on the way home). There were a couple of stupidly-steep hills. So steep in fact (30%), that the roads are paved with bricks. I did a few miles on single-track trails, and realized I really suck at mountain biking. Th: Nada. Planned rest day. F: Play tennis with the family. It was the kids first time, and they were surprisingly good. Sa: Out of town wedding. Su: Trail run 3.5 miles with my daughter in the morning. Drive home. Bike 4 miles with my daughter in the evening.
Weight increased again, but I'm still looking the same. I'll do a bodyfat test this week. Who knows, maybe I'm gaining muscle?

Last week I finally broke 100 miles on the bicycle (but it’s all so flat!), and broke 1/2 mile on each of my 3 swims. We’ve been hitting the gym for a workout class twice a week, but I realized I haven’t been walking. Started up on that yesterday morning, but it’s hard. I’m not sleeping well, so not getting up early enough to walk before the sun hits and temps head into the 80s and beyond.

M: Trail run 6 miles while my daughter was running with her XC team. I only made it 4.5 before I tripped on a root and pulled/tore my hamstring. I hobbled a mile to a campground where I flagged down Park Police, who gave me a ride to the main office. In certain positions, my lower leg would just hang. Not good. Take some Aleve and try to sleep. Tu: I was doubting if I would be able to walk. And that I'd end up at the hospital for an MRI. But to my surprise, I could walk, only with a slight limp. Walked 1/4 mile twice while at work. Then 1 mile when I got home. Interestingly, my heart rate was about 40 bpm higher than it normally would have been. W: Walked 1/4 mile twice while at work. Drive 3 hours to Buffalo. Walk around downtown in the evening (about a mile or so). Th: Work site was a former industrial site that had been demoed and was now an overgrown field. Walked over uneven ground all day long collecting soil samples. Hot and humid. Leg was OK. F: Bike commute 24 miles, including 20 hilly miles on the ride home. Heat index = 113F. I felt pretty good though. Sa: Yard work in the morning and early afternoon, then out of town wedding in the evening. Heat index hovered around 115F. Su: Lazy morning. Helped my friend section 20 medium-sized ash trees that were cut down earlier in the week.
Weight increased again. But a caliper test verified that my bodyfat has remained stable or even decreased slightly.
I was asked to join a team doing the "100 on 100" road relay race in VT in mid-August. Each participant would end up running around 17 miles. No problem, considering my recent weekend trail runs have been around 12-15 miles.
If my hamstring keeps healing like it has, I'll try to road run later this week.

I've been doing great with biking, swimming, and our fitness classes at the gym. This morning we loaded packs for a short training walk, and before we'd gone a mile my plantar fasciitis was flaring. By the time we got home I was limping, and I've been in pain all day. This is not a good way to start the hiking season. In fact, short of a miracle, there may be no hiking season. This comes just when I was reaching the point where I HAVE to get on the trail. :(

M: Short walk during work. Tu: Bike commute 30 miles, including 22 miles on way home. Eight of those miles were relatively flat, then I hit the hills... 1,400 feet of 'em... including some off-road. W: Short walk during work. Th: Bike commute 17 miles. F: Bike commute 28 miles. Hot, and into a north and east headwind (2/3 of ride). Sa: Yard work. Then my brother's annual summer party, followed by my class reunion. Su: Lazy morning. Yard work.
Weight increased slightly.
I'm pumping out some decent watts on my bike commutes. It'll be interesting to see how that translates to my road bike.
Hamstring still swollen, but not bothering me. I noticed the outside of that knee is sore to the touch. Not sure if that's from cycling, or associated with the hamstring injury.
Ran for the first time since the injury yesterday (2 miles), and everything felt OK. Not 100%, but OK.

M: 3 mile flat trail run. Hamstring got tight the last 1/2 mile. Tu: Rest. W: Rest. Th: Bike commute 29 miles, including a 24-mile return trip. During the middle of the return trip, I climbed 1,900' over 16 miles. (Note: my bike/gear weighs 35 lbs) F: Bike commute 14 miles. Sa: 2 mile neighborhood "rehab" run. Su: 2 mile neighborhood "rehab" run.
I keep setting PRs on my routes without trying.
My knee is no longer sore, and the hamstring soreness has "moved" from lower to higher/inner. It's slowly getting better and the soreness is now in a location where I can target it during stretching.
I've begun doing pushups/pullups/abs in the evening.

M: Nada Tue: Run 1 mile.... very, very slowly.... Wed: Swim 300 yards Thur: work hell Fri: work hell Sat: husband and I went fly fishing in Eldorado SP with all the city folk. Had to park in the lot at the entrance and walked a mile up canyon in full fly fishing gear. It was 85* and full blazing sun. Not a fun walk in waders and wading boots. Ended up with a couple blisters on my heels. Total, 2 miles round trip, but I'd say it was actually 5 after being in full gear and full sun. Su: I was beat from the day before so I wasn't worth much.
I am getting back out there. My body needs it. I have more family coming to town this week, and a full week of activities planned, so we'll see how this plays out.

walkswithblackflies, why do I get the feeling your commute doesn’t just follow the obvious and direct route each way? Glad your hammy is getting better. My foot is improving, but I tested it a bit too much Friday with my “Strong Pump” class. That set me back a bit, so now I’m trying again to be sensible. Since plantar fasciitis has kept me from walking, let alone carrying a pack, I’ve upped my biking and swimming (well, I was working on ramping them up anyway). Biked 110 miles last week, and started making more effort to find hills. Swimming every second or 3rd day, and I’m working my way back up to a mile (just 4 laps short right now. Maybe will make the jump today). I’m doing some intervals in the pool, as well, to break myself out of the slow and minimal-energy stroke I fall into when I’m not thinking about it. Plus it makes it more interesting, since swimming laps is inherently boring.
