Yeah, it's harmless, just sayin'. Taken yesterday by an acquaintance who's a trailbuilder(mountain biking) near Anniston, AL. Not what you normally expect to see on Dec. 31!

Crazy. Sub-freezing temps the last several nights, maybe ~50F for the high in N. AL, yet here's one from a hiking friend around Desoto SP yesterday:

So, have you hiked the new section of trail at Virgin Falls OwenM ? (or anyone else). I haven't been to Virgin Falls in a couple of years, but it looks like since I've been there, they've added the Upland Trail that runs from near the trailhead over to Martha's Pretty Point. The original trail from TH down to the cable crossing is pretty unremarkable if I recall correctly---just wanted to see if that new (new to me anyway) section offers anything different.

Wasn't aware of the new trail, but I'll be sure to check it out next time. Thanks for the heads up. I'm going in the next couple of weeks. I'll start a new Virgin Falls thread after I go and leave Owen's snake pics thread alone. I noticed almost too late that Virgin Falls now requires reservations. They have reservation sites at the cable crossing, Martha's Pretty Point, base of the falls, and down by the river. I got the last of all of them at a site down by the river. The reservations for VF are now listed under the Fall Creek Falls park-----very easy to miss since FCF is in a completely different location. Other sites I know of in the area are not listed (some obvious sites and some stealth sites), and nothing down the left side of Scott Gulf Road is listed as reservation (or even show up on the map). Those are outside of the VF state natural area, so they may still be "claim it when you get there." Looks like a big recipe for confusion listing Virgin Falls sites with Fall Creek Falls though.
