Maybe this winter though I’ll be looking at a 13 replacement in the future. Same time frame for me. ETA: I've taken underwater pictures with mine, keeping it in my hand. The key is to not plug anything into it, or try to charge it, until it completely dries out. I put it in a bag of rice, carefully so as to not get a grain into the lightning opening. Waited 3 hours. I’ve taken mine swimming and just let it dry out in my shirt pocket. As noted, however, it can take several hours to dry well enough to plug it in. It does seem to be protected against shorting, as I have tried to plug mine in while there was water in the charging port and it simply reported that water was detected and it would not charge until it was dry. Rain has never been a problem.

Very interesting that some take their phones swimming. I’m careful with mine but don’t baby it, have photographed in light rain. For me it’s an all around solution to several uses and it is carried and used year round. Nice to know first hand information that they hold up well underwater.
My plant guides are precious resources and the varied and detailed maps are sublime and have gotten us out of jambs when unforeseen circumstances forced us to find alternate routes. The computational photography really makes the difficult lighting situations in the outdoors so much easier to deal with. Mine rides in an small Eagle Creek cross body bag made well before iPhones were even a thought and has zippered pockets front, back and lid that I filled with 3/8” closed cell foam to insulate against heat, cold and impacts. It is just big enough to fit like a glove and keeps the instrument close at hand. The only accessory I got for it is the silicone magesafe case. It has a good grip to it.
When the iPhone 14 Pro Max comes out later this year I’ll get it and give the 12 Pro Max to girlfriend. She likes to scan her documents and export as pdf with the phone. I have an app that makes this almost automatic. She also likes depositing checks at home with the phone instead of going somewhere. I don’t even carry cards anymore though girlfriend still carries a couple. It’s very secure paying with the phone. Been doing all these things for years.

swiftdream, I was nervous at first, but after the first few drenchings with no side-effects, I decided I needed to take advantage of the possibilities it opened up to go ahead and take it in the water. That allowed me to do things like swim across this pool to shoot from behind the waterfall (I seem to have shot all videos from there, of people jumping into the pool).

That is gorgeous rebeccad and we’ll worth having an imaging device that can handle the water and difficult lighting in gorges and anywhere else. I really like that image. Really good info We got 138 exposures today, mostly blooming cacti. The desert has gone from dead gray to explosive green with some wild blooms in the last week from heavy monsoon activity. It is a glorious time to be out early. However when climbing up to some openings in the rocks we almost ran into a bee hive. I could hear thousands buzzing so we got out of there fast. We’ll go back on a cold day in winter to see if we can spot some honeycomb. They are Africanized here so dangerous when active.
